74% of Americans Support Voter ID Laws: Do You?

BREITBART.COM reports:
One of the left's sillier temper tantrums is the fight against Voter ID laws. The law simply requires that a voter present a photo ID at the polling place, as a means to verify they are who they say they are. It is almost impossible to navigate daily life without a photo ID, yet the left argues that this burden is uniquely onerous. In their worldview, a person should be able to walk into the voting place, state a name and then vote without any verification the person is, in fact, that name. Fortunately, the American people loudly disagree.

I have to assume that those opposed to voter I.D. Laws merely wish to abet voter fraud, and are probably Democrats. It's their favorite tactic for stealing elections and has the tacit approval of the criminal attorney general Eric Holder.

No effect are you kiddding me? You reference other fraud which is true but since there is other fraud lets not fix any of it? Voter suppression is code for "i don't want rules in place that makes it more difficult to cheat the system" You comment about illegals is also not true any many parts of the country. If an illegal can get a drivers license, in-state college tuition and welfare, they too are more than willing to go vote for someone who will keep giving them even more support.

There were some cases in which people could not get proper ID but with all the national spotlight on Voter ID laws and the news about how Pennsylvania has taken steps to ensure that even those who have ID issues will be given access to more easily obtainable proper ID, I have become more confident that everyone who should be able to vote will be able to do so.

when we talk about obstacles to obtaining ID are those obstacles mostly not having documentation on hand and difficulty accessing that information if not present? I think we should help resolve those issues. Let me know of other issues you are aware of because I have not read much about that specific subject. Thanks

At one of the universities i taught at students from the pro-republican party went out passing out fliers that the election was already won by the republican. It wasn't true but it got many students talking about it. It cost enough votes on campus that a larger democratic student body hardly was noticed in an election. The result was poor voter turn out. Even though this was just a dirty trick, the republican party didn't have enough people to win. The republican party doesn't have enough people to do much more then complain. When they are griping, it's because they can't come up with a better thought. The economy will hold out past the 2012 Election and the winner will be our current President Obama! The rePUBlicans will whine, beg and plead like spoiled brats about it but the people will have spoken. =)

In every election WI has had, since a single judge decided that he knows better than the people and stayed our voter id law, I have presented ALL six photo ids that I have.
Some of the poll officials think it is a cool action, on my part.

At the time I voted on this poll, it was 30 - 2. Sadly, not suprisingly, the two No votes have left no comments.

Someone, if you do not want to see positive id at the polls, please explain.

However there is only one major flaw with this. If you are a senior, been voting all your life, but now cannot drive, you do not have a driver's licence. As long as there is some other for of ID that will allow them to vote then there should be no problem. Many seniors would not know how to go about that and of course that is what some politicians are counting on.

It has been proved time and again that there is very little voter fraud that has happened but that is not what drives this. There are many people out there that have no way of obtaining an ID or have no idea about how to get one and they are the ones that are now left out. And no they are not illegals. They are american citizens that are being left behind and there are millions of them. I have been voting for six decades and this is the first time that this has been an issue.

They recently varified over 2,600 cases of voter registration fraud in Florida, in 2000 the Presidential election was determined by just over 800 votes in Florida.

The 2000 election was determined by the Supreme Court because of the major problems they had with the punch card ballots in Florida. As I recall it had nothing to do with who voted but with the type of ballots they had and the problems they presented.
I also seem to remember that Bush did not win the popular vote nation wide. It was given to him because of the electoral college and how that is structured across the nation.

The point I was trying to make, maybe not clearly though, was that voter fraud exists, and some elections are close enough that fraudulant votes could change the results of an election. I'm sorry that was not clearer.

No I do understand that was your point and I agree it is something that needs to be addressed. My concern is that because of this new law there will be many that may be left out. The people that may indeed be left out are seniors and college students that are now out of their state. Those are the people that will be hurt by this. There will always be attempts at fraud and that is simply an excuse to bring this about.

In Alaska where I live when you fill out your voter registration form after the state verifies your eligibility they send you a registered voter ID card, and you can use that and not need any other ID to vote legally. Maybe a simple program like that would work elsewhere, minimizing the burden on everyone. You are right, we probably will never eliminate all fraud, but we should still try while not making it difficult for any one to vote. I think we can both agree that keeping someone who wants to vote from voting is just as bad as someone voting fraudulantly?

All states are giving FREE State ID cards.

Bring a birth cert, SScard, one other ID, all is well. ID is in hand in an hour or so.

Yes I am very much aware of that but how many seniors will know to do this or think it worth going through the process to get it especially when they were so use to simply going to the poles and being treated like they really belong here. You have to know there will be some that will be turned away simply because they did not know.
Please understand I am in agreement that you should be able to somehow prove you are a citizen. But what I think should be done is all people who have voted before should be notified, as I was, that they are registered and where to vote and what to expect. If that is done for everyone then it's all good. Of course then there is the college student that is from out of state and they will be left out.

Most states have spent hundreds of thousands advertising those facts.

    It is common knowledge.

There probably is not a single person over 65 in this nation who DOESN'T have some form of government assistance-so in all likelyhood, they already have ID.

The argument AGAINST ID's is strictly a red herring so that illegals can vote, and others can vote repeatedly.

that is not true there are a lot of older folks that do not have those forms of id , there was a woman in the news that was 80 or 90 that had been voting for 70 years that did not have the reqired id and they turned her down , even tough everyone knew had known her for decades and she had worked in the governors office!!!!

People without driver's licenses can get photo ID's at the DMV for free if they qualify financially. The process is the same as applying for a license except there's no test involved.

My mom is 80, uses a walker and hasn't driven for years, but she has a photo ID

I hear you, but I hear that at least in Pennsylvania they are going all out to assist the kind of Americans you are describing. I just hope that after the elections are over a bunch of CITIZENS are not complaining about how they were able to vote before but could not this time. That would be a tragedy but if it resulted in Republicans winning I have a sneaking suspicion a lot of Republican would not care. In Ohio Republicans have made it where Republican districts have more time to vote than Democratic ones and I doubt if any Republicans here or elsewhere care. Winning at all costs seems to be their motto.

You are so right. I live in a state that surely heads the list on this. The primary we just had here found most of the moderate republicans in the state senate ousted. Up until now they were the only thing that kept things sane here. Now the Governor and the state congress are in complete control of the disaster that awaits us. Everything that the republican candidates for President have promised is being done here. And I know we are not the only state that is doing this.
