A great-grandmother, Kathryn Winkfein, got tasered by a cop in Austin Texas after getting pulled over. The cop who tasered granny said that Winkfein refused to sign the ticket assigned after she was pulled over for speeding. The 72-year-old mouthed of the police and got physical...

or other such devices.
The Incident, should be Investigated, & Dealt With!

Now which is better? The Billy Club? Or Being Shot?
If Not For the tazer, These are thier only other options.

My son is a police officer part of their training requires to be pepper sprayed. He would rather be shot. Had the officer sprayed her we would be having the same conversation about an officer that pepper sprayed a 72 year old woman. Shame on her for her behavior.

If she would have just signed the ticket,and not have cussed the officer,everything would be fine! When a officer is alone and no back -up,you don,t pull your gun,you pull your taser..that will get the job done!!!

If you feel the police are wrong then cooperate and take them to court later. We have laws to protect the police and private citizens. If you don't like the police here try Iran or Saudi Arabia.

Let's go back to the good old days when they used a billy club or gun to get the attention of a lawbreaker. It's only on TV shows that police would "shoot to wound!" The old bat should have shut her mouth and listened to the cop; he did everyting by the book.

The women was demented, ornery, or just plain crazy. If that big nasty policeman had grabbed and subdued her, the same whiny bleeding hearts would be saying the same thing. As arrogant as some cops are, they are not out there to be beaten, cursed, or killed by anyone, even a dumb little old lady.

HELL NO, because then the cops could very well pull out their gun and shoot you. Don't forget, when a cop shoot's someone they get 2 weeks off with pay. It's called, "administrative leave with pay".

The thing is...he pushed her to get her off the edge of the highway...it's not the safest place to stand. Seriously had the old woman just cooperated he might have let her off with a warning.

Tasers have saved many lives....and I'd much rather hear of someone getting tasered rather than hear someone got shot.

I think simply from the comments you can see that they need to be taken away. Two 6 foot police officers can't subdue a 72 year old woman and find it necessary to tase her? And then people can watch the video and actually agree that it might have been necessary. Because of the faulty reasoning skills of a significant number of people (including police officers), the tasers need to be taken away from all of them. It's a dangerous weapon that shouldn't be used so lightly. People don't take guns so lightly. Everyone knows that is deadly force. It reminds me of the false security that came with issuing rubber bullets. The police were not threatened by a 72 year old woman. She just wasn't doing what they were telling her to do. Grab her, handcuff her and throw her in the car.

WRONG... because she was yelling "NOT TO TOUCH HER" he was trying to keep her from getting hit by a vehicle.. Cops have rights too- not just contakourous OLD bats/women - thinking they can get away with it because they are old and a woman - gee I have an idea -- obey the law and you will be fine 99% of the time!!!!

I can hardly wait for the first outraged family member whose relative has a .40 caliber round in the center of their forehead to appear on the news and report the horror because tasers were eliminated. I personally have tasered 3 young men in a 5 year period which would have been killed by gunfire had I not been able to use a taser. Improper use of a taser mandates discipline against the offending officer not causing unnecessary deaths of citizens by taking tasers away from the police.

I watched the whole tape. She was wrong and belligerant but is only 4'11". The guy was twice her size. He's a tad weak not to be able to cuff her.

are consequences for resisting a cop.

I saw the vid. The cop gave this woman every chance to cooperate.

At some point her belligerent behavior puts the blame squarely on her.
Older should be wiser....fight in court...not on the street.

Cops using tasers is much better than resorting to pulling out their guns.

I agree. No matter how large or small you are to resist arrest with someone wearing a badge, gun and taser you've got to be NOT dealing with a full deck. Her age is all the more reason she should have submitted and then if he tased her for no reason, she could have sued the crap out of the department. Her actions like so many others that have caused unnecessary actions by law enforcement officials, is silly to the 100th degree. On the other hand if a cop abuses the use of a taser gun then they should be dealt with in the most severest manner, like tasing of the gonads or something similar. No one in authority is justified in abusing their authority!!!

Remember the incident of that Tx nurse that put her dome light on, and drove slowly home w/the cop behind her ? She was a nurse coming home from the late shift and was afraid to stop on a lonely stretch of highway.
He did not taser her...she did not really resist...but he did shove her over the hood of his car and hand cuffed her.Rough treatment.

HE...was out of line.
It happens and should be punished when it does.

She didn't do anything and he could have still assigned her the ticket without all the extra stuff...Those cops are taser triger happy and they do it to anyone. Those things needs to be taken from them.

If you watch the video she doesn't ask for the ticket until after she threw her little fit. And yes, if I resisted I'd deserve the taser. It's the law, we all know how it works.
