As much as I don't like censorship, schools have the authorization and responsibility to control speech in schools. They worry about a slippery slope. Free speech doesn't apply in every context. Just as the school wouldn't want to have 5th graders giving speeches against Islam or Homosexuals.

The schools don't want 5th grades turning into debates for/against any issue -- the teachers want to control every message.

I disagree, when the laws of NY include marriage equality....then his speech is fine and really isn't controversial at all. As if a speech can turn children gay...just sayin'.
