Houston police identified the suspect in a shooting last week that critically injured 30 yr. Houston veteran police officer, Rick Salter. Federal Immigration Deportation authorities have finally admitted they missed multiple opportunities to deport the illegal immigrant, (Alfaro), who is from El Salvador.
On Tuesday, Houston's Mayor said the disclosure about the immigration status of Alfaro, who was fatally shot by officers executing a drug search warrant, highlights the federal government's failure to identify and deport illegal immigrants convicted of crimes. White said the federal government has "let us down." "As a local law enforcement agency, under law, we can't deport people," White said. "That is the job of the federal government, and we're calling on the federal government to do their job."
White said that after the shooting, information about the man's immigration status "was piecemeal and sometimes incomplete and inconsistent." White said immigration officials told him that he was at one time a legal permanent resident. He had been arrested five times for possession or delivery of drugs - including three times after an immigration judge granted him "voluntary departure" in March 2001. At that point he lost his legal residency. Voluntary departure allows illegal immigrants to leave the country on their own terms, rather than be formally deported.
Officer Richard Salter, shot in the face during the raid, remains in critical condition, but officials on Tuesday said he moved two of his fingers for doctors, the first time they have asked him to respond.

I most sincerly and deeply hope and pray that the officer will be able to heal well enough and be able to get his feet back on the ground so that he may be able to continue to fulfill all of his duties of an honorable police officer.

American is an attractive place to those who do not live here, even though there is a strong contingent in Washington who want to change America.
The same was true in 1981 and 1982 when Castro was sending boatloads of criminals and mentally ill to Florida. President Reagan took strong steps to stop the importation of Castro's cast-offs. Thus, there is precedent to stop such illegal immigrating in to America of criminals and other lesser desireables. With such a precedent, we need to once again pack up and send home those who threaten to make America less safe, like the man who shot Mr. Salter.

I heard the Chief of Police of Houston said that they didn't want to "alienate" the Hispanic community by having illegal criminals deported! I am pretty certain that law-abiding American citizens of Hispanic descent don't want these bastards living on their streets either.
This guy was wanted in Mexico as well as the U.S. - why didn't they just send him back to a Mexican jail? Our "leaders" are failing us, all over this nation, at every level!
Edit P.S.: What babbling idiot down-raved this question?

I am so sorry for that cruel joke but I did it to prove a point why wont people get it secure our border and do it now and for those Illegals that commit crimes here take them out and shoot them in the leg so they wont hop our fences any more. Again sorry for any disrespect towards that officer and his family I wish them well.

The police chief from Houston gave the standard answer: we don't have enough people and we don't want to alienate the Hispanic population. There is a federal law on the books allowing cities and counties to deputize their police so they can enforce immigration laws. And how much manpower does it take when you already have a criminal illegal in custody to call immigration?
It has to end and it is up to the voters in these localities to stop voting these people into office.
