2012 Election: Will Campaign Donations Determine the Winner?

Campaign donations play an important role in elections. Candidates need to raise money to get their message across using advertising on television, radio, the internet, etc... Candidates also need to travel, employ campaign strategists and workers, spend money on other logistics of running a national campaign.

Barack Obama spent $740 million dollars to win in 2008 -- more money than any campaign in American history. President Obama may need to spend more than that to win a re-election.

Obama's challenger, Mitt Romney, raised $106 million in June. Romney has received large donations from Republicans to rival the large Super PAC donations Obama received from celebrities like Morgan Freeman.

Associated Press reports:
June was the second consecutive month in which Romney brought in more money than Obama, finance reports filed Friday show. Romney's money advantage prompted Obama's campaign advisers to warn earlier this month that the president could lose the election if the financial disparity continued.

    I am always amazed about how much money they spend. if you have to spend 100's of millions of dollars to get your message out. having to repeat hate commercial and promotional commercial then is that person vote even convient. if they choose there choice on some one sided biased commercial then it is just sad.
    though unfournate as it is that person vote does count. so dont show the commerials that person better off with a 50/50 chance then some 1min commerical saying nothing but lies false promises and hate.

    These are just huge slush funds. We have no idea where all that money really goes.
    What we really HAVE to guard against is vote fraud.
    This regime scammed untld numbers of votes last time, and contracted a Spanish company(???) to count America's votes.

    He spent $$$740,000,000 on the 2008 campaign, he's attended over 100 fundraisers in the past 6 months at $30,000 per plate, his net worth is $11,800,000 and his half brother lives in the Kenyan slums.     What an idiot--that video isn't a fan-made fantasy, it's from CNN, for crying out loud! I saw that news story first-hand, before someone uploaded it to YouTube. It's disgusting how Obama just turned his back on certain aspects of his family tree the way he has. Shows what kind of moral character--or lack thereof--that he possesses.

    They're not the only thing that will determine the winner. The aptitude of each candidate and how well they perform in the debates will go a long way. Mitt Romney will try to buy this election, but Barack Obama will mop his ass all over the floor.
