The chart says that half of "all Americans" don't pay income taxes, yet you spin that into half of "all taxpayers". There is a difference. The half of all Americans that don't pay taxes includes children, the elderly retired, stay-at-home moms, disabled. etc.

Every American should have skin in the game. If you do not pay 18 percent or pay no taxes then you should not be eldgible to get any benefits or write offs because you already got them. Pay taxes and you will be able to elgible for programs. If not then suck it up! Stop your belly aching and mooching!!!!

Read my stupid question again. Where did I say that half of 'all Americans' pay no taxes.
Any logical and honest person reading the chart would NO that it is talking about 'taxpayers'

What are you, a delusional and blind Liberal? That can't face the facts and truth without deflecting to an asinine remark?

...I really don't know anybody who wouldn't be willing to trade the tax burden of being wealthy in America for the overwhelming benefits.

They also make about 3% of the income. The top 20% in terms of income earn about 80% of total income. I really think it would be fair if they also paid 80% of the taxes. ncome distribution

You forget about all the payroll taxes that working people pay. Social security taxes, Medicare taxes, unemployment insurance deductions. If you consider these, the overall tax structure is not progressive at all.

Wages are taxed overall at a much higher rate than interest and dividends. That's what's really unfair. We're supposed to encourage work, not tax it to death.

The income tax, when it was instituted, was only supposed to apply to wealthy people. That's still a good idea.

The income tax is not the only important tax, not by a long shot.

No, I did not forget about all the other taxes. I know about all the other taxes. That would be another post on how we are OVERTAXED.

This post is about ONE tax, the FEDERAL Income Tax that nearly 50% of Americans pay ZERO and we are blasted by Liberals about everyone paying their 'Fair Share'. Meaning the rich have to pay more. Maybe, but what about those that pay NOTHING.

Those that pay zero income tax pay plenty in other taxes. Income tax was supposed to apply only to high-income people when it was started. That was the right idea.

The federal income tax is a result of government growth. Though it was first imposed on the wealthy 3 short years later it was impose on all who earn wages.
Article 1, section 9, "No capitation, or other direct, Tax shall be laid, unless in Proportion to the Census or Enumeration herein before directed to be taken." In other words everyone pays equally..........just think even in 1913 the Progressives where ignoring the U.S. Constitution.
  • Steve Arel 2012/05/21 00:08:13

Passed by Congress on July 2, 1909, and ratified February 3, 1913, the 16th amendment established Congress's right to impose a Federal income tax.
    http://www.ourdocuments.gov/d...

So it was always constitutional. And no, the income tax was never applied to low-income Americans.
  • Arel Steve 2012/05/21 00:50:30
    Arel
Technically, before the amendment any taxes imposed were to be shared equally among the people. Taxes were the cause of the original Tea Party we used to fight against taxation now we roll over and are taxed for everything.

Wow. I cannot believe the foolishness of your statement. Income tax was imposed on EVERYONE. Back to the original question. Once again, if you can't read, this question ONLY pertains to Federal Income taxes. NO other tax, NO other fee, No other State tax, NO other penalty of any kind. In other words. It is about NOTHING, but Federal Income taxes. NOTHING, NADA, ZILTZ. Get that??????

By the way, if you dare. Read the 16th Amendment.
No where does it say that the Income Tax was to be applied to 'high-income people'. Let me repeat that in more simpler terms that your small brain can comprehend.

The Federal Tax applied TO EVERY SINGLE AMERICAN that earned an income.

    Amendment XVI
(The proposed amendment was sent to the states July 12, 1909, by the Sixty-first Congress. It was ratified Feb. 3, 1913.)

[Taxes on income; Congress given power to lay and collect.]

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.
  • Steve zbacku 2012/05/26 16:16:52
    Steve
The Constitutional amendment gave the power to tax income regardless of amount of income, true. However, low income people have NEVER had to pay income tax. When it was instituted, only very high-income people had to pay.

The post here talked about the tax burden not being spread equitably. That's misleading if only income taxes are discussed. Other taxes are important, too.

The income tax as it is applied today is unconstitutional and tyrannical. It has allowed the politicians to spend us into oblivion because they get the money directly from us via withholding, whereas before 1913 the feds had to wait for the States to fork over the money (by apportionment, as required by the Constitution). The current system takes the power of the purse away from the States & the People and hands it over to politicians who don't deserve to spend it!

This isn't about "fair share". It's about the government putting a gun to your head and robbing you of the fruits of your labor!

    Let's look at that closely.

We have 50% of the population paying 2.5% of all income taxes collected. And we also have 50% of the population sucking on the teat of Obamanomics.

And they complain about the 1% not paying their fair share?

Do they even hear in their own ears as they say those words just how insane it really sounds?

It's a no-brainer! The top 50% pay all the taxes, of which the highest amount comes from the very wealthy - you know, the ones who can afford to hire people for services and to work in their companies!

Interesting how easy the bottom 50% has it and yet they do not think that they have enough. Reminds me of a book by Ayn Rand called 'Atlas Shrugged" . This book should be required reading in EVERY public school.
