I was in the Philipines back in 69 in school for a few weeks and on the TV newscast Mrs Marco's was giving a speech and then shaking hands with the peeples. One guy stepped back and pulled a machette and started for the first lady. She put up her arms taking the blows on them before the guards got to the guy. They drug him away behind the stage and all you heard was two shots. Trial over.

If he really wanted to die, he would have killed himself at the scene.

Not necessarilly, many of these type of mass murderers enjoy the theater and publicity that a trial brings them. Some even request the death penalty, some commit suicide after the trial.

He would have done us a favor if he did because this will cost us tax dollars.

They got a search warrant to search his apartment and they found explosions in his house. He was a former medical student too.

Depends on if he has a mental case....too bad someone was not carrying a gun it would have been stopped before he got off two shots.

I'm afraid with your gun laws this kind of thing will keep happening.

Any sufficiently motivated person can obtain a weapon, anytime, anywhere. Laws do little to deter criminals or crazies, as these people simply don't care about laws.

The mistake you make here, is your complete failure to not only compare our cultures, but also our differing populations. It's much like comparing apples to peanuts, they are that different. We Americans are conditioned from an early age, on instant gratification in all things, and the mistaken idea that each and every one of us is superior to everyone else around us. This could be considered both good and bad, as it is a large part of what made us the dominant superpower on the planet and infused us with a can do attitude, even though it also gave us all a massive influx of arrogance. For this primary reason, the draconian gun laws you suffer through simply wouldn't work here, as we will be more inclined to find a way to either obtain a firearm, or create something even more destructive.

But, as you say, every ten or so years one of your people goes nuts with a gun, while that occurrence here is more frequent, we have nearly six times as many people to deal with as the UK. Still, your criminals and crazies can get firearms when sufficiently motivated, despite your draconian gun restrictions.

Yes you're right, only five times the population...my mistake. And yes, you're also right about our decline as an economic superpower, but this is one of the types of things that fuels our crazies...utter frustration. That, and the attempt by our government to institute European style social reforms over here, which is one of the reasons we have declined and are declining so rapidly on the economic world stage in the first place. We became an economic superpower by doing things differently than most of the rest of the world, and trying to change what worked so well is just a bad idea, even if instituted over decades as it has been. But those changes don't mean that the ingrained attitudes and arrogance of our populous will change at the same rate.

By the way, I'm an American style libertarian and an atheist, which means that right wing nut jobs call me a left wing nut job,,,and left wing nut jobs call me a right wing nut job...you take your pick, but I ain't neither one.

Life Imprisonment is stupid, why should good, law-abiding, tax-paying citizens pay to support someone who has been determined to never be fit for society again?

I sympathise with that as a taxpayer. While in general I don't agree with the death penalty because but only because of the possibility of an irretrievable miscarriage of justice occurring, where the murderer's guilt has been proven beyond doubt then they should be executed forthwith, not out of vengeance or revenge but because they have forfeited the right to live, may if set free murder again and most importantly cost me a fortune in keeping them in prison.

So it's farewell Ian Brady, the Moors Murderer, so long the Yorkshire Ripper, Ta Ta Donald Neilson, goodbye Levi Bellfield. These are all British mass murderers by the way languishing in prison till they die at my expense.

exactly my point. I do agree with the miscarriage of justice, and to help fix that, I think that anyone should be able to have two (or one, I'm a bit torn on that decision myself) appeals, and after that, it should be over and they should be executed. And this whole (in america anyway) sitting on death row for 15, 20, 30 years is ridiculous to me. Yea, its going to be more expensive to execute someone when you let them sit there for so long and keep appealing and wasting courts time in an effort to delay than Life Imprisonment unless you limit their number of chances and time they have to appeal

Well in general I agree but in the case of the following they are definitely guilty and should be eliminated immediately for the vermin they are:

Ian Brady-murdered children on the Lancashire moors after kidnapping them,

Yorkshire Ripper-convicted of murdering at least 13 women at night but probably over 20.,

Donald Nielson-waylaid young homeless men at London railway stations, invited them back to his house and murdered them,

Levi Bellfield, murdered three young women including lovely little Milly Dowler who has become an icon, attacked another dozen or more

If you have time I do urge you to watch this.

If some of the patrons at the theater had a weapon, fewer people would have been killed or wounded.

Patron, do you mean security guards? Because I don't see how weapon to "patron" will avoid this incident, especially when this cold blood murderer wore bullet proof vest.

I think he should be executed by firing squad. If he does get executed, which he probably won't, it will be by lethal injection though. He shot dozens of people though so he should be shot too. I believe in an eye for an eye.

An eye for an eye, and all the world will be blind. Anyway, execution by firing squad is too easy and fast death for him.

Yeah, he deserves a much worse and a more painful death then any of his victims got. He probably will just get life without parole though.
