13-Year-Old Dressed As Two-Face Shoots Himself At School

kyle 2012/09/27 00:13:12

Residents of a medium-sized Oklahoma town are reeling today after a
middle schooler brought a gun to school and shot himself on Superhero
Dress-up Day. Thirteen-year-old Cade Poulos was a good student without a
history of disciplinary problems, but when he showed up to school this
morning dressed as Batman villain Two-Face, something was clearly wrong.

According to KOCO,
Poulos shot himself with a handgun in the middle of a crowded hallway
just before morning classes were about to begin at 7:50. Emergency
personnel was called to the scene almost immediately, but by the time
they arrived, nothing could be done.

Within minutes, Stillwater Middle School was put on lockdown, and
parents were notified to pick up their children. All except the victim
escaped without physical injuries, but the scars and wounds from the
tragedy will no doubt linger through the hallways for years.

Details about the victim and possible motivations for his suicide are
being kept under wraps, but several students have told various outlets
that Poulos was despondent recently over some bullying incidents. Those
stories will come out for the coming weeks, as will plenty of
comparisons to the tragedy in Aurora because the shooter dressed up as
the Joker. At this point, there's no reason to think the whole Two-Face
thing was anything more than a bizarre coincidence, but regardless of
what the real motivations were, they won't change the fact that a smiley
teenager is gone before he was able to reach the prime of his life.

Pop Blend's sincerest thoughts go out to the entire Poulos family, as
well as all those touched by Cade's life. He will be missed.
You!

What worries me is the amount of people I hear call the victim 'weak' and 'worthless' because they killed themselves over bullying. I'm more digsusted that people can make a person feel so 'weak' and 'worthless' that they feel the need to kill themsleves in the first place!

I hope the boy is at peace now and my best wishes to his family and friends.

If reports like this continue, it may lead to a drastic change in the way movies and - undoubtedly - music is produced. Only when we are left with a bland unimaginative replacement labelled "entertainment" will overbearing nanny state politicians finally fbe happy.

Think of the movie Equilibrium and you'll get what I mean.

My heart goes out to this child's parents. They are in my prayers.
Mr. Resource Officer, if you had done the job you get paid for, I doubt this would have ever happened.
Whether, we are parents or not, we must stand together and let all Boards of Education know, that Bullying cannot and will not be tolerated anymore.
    This is very upsetting.
    Blessed Be !

Bullies are murderers indirectly and should be treated as such. Those P.O.S. need to see the movie "The Final", maybe that would scare the sh*t out of them!

What possible gun law would prevent someone from shooting them self or anyone else?

The point is, whether it's a criminal or someone like this kid, once a person makes up their mind, they will find a way to carry out the act regardless of laws or choice of weapon.

Not so much in the slums and ghettos but I'm not trying to compare countries, only human behavior.
People used to bash each over the heads with rocks before knives and guns.
It's not the weapon that kills,...... people kill people.

Have parents become that far out of touch with their kids that they aren't aware a suicide is on the horizon?

Now-a-days, Yes, it is possible. With both parents working, kids in day care when they're little then perhaps home alone til the parents get home. They're shuffled off to music lessons and dance classes and sports etc. Maybe they think they're spending a lot of time together but they're not really. You need to spend time with your kids doing nothing or anything. Those are the times when they talk and open up about what's on their minds. I don't think we do enough of that kind of "quality time" with our kids.

Very much on point, Pat. Parents are much too concerned with keeping the children busy with activities, all of which add to the child's pressures to perform, achieve, score a goal, catch the ball, be popular, etc. Almost every child would rather spend a quiet hour one on one with a parent than to attend another soccer practice or attend another "day camp".
