A 12-year-old boy who hanged himself in his East Harlem apartment was driven to suicide by bullies who mercilessly teased him for being short and brainy, his heartbroken family said Wednesday.

Joel, we miss u so much! Words cannot express how much pain and anger that we are all going through. I wish u were still here. If u only knew how much u ment to everyone. I still remember that handsome smile of yours, your soft innocent voice....You was such a young talented boy that every envy! It breaks my heart knowing that ur gone... U didn't deserve to go through this..... If I could only hold u in my arms just one last time... I pray that justice is served! I love u with all my heart. My condolences goes out to lisbeth, richeliss, & richie. I'm so sorry that u have to go through this. U guys r in my thoughts & prayers...
