An incandescent light bulb recognized by
Guinness World Records as being the longest burning is still glowing
strong days after celebrations that marked its 110th anniversary.

The Centennial Light Bulb, at Fire Station No. 6 in Livermore,
Calif., has been burning bright since it was first installed in 1901.
(The exact date appears unknown, though the bulb’s “birthday” is
typically held in June, most recently June 18th.) Since then, the
60-watt bulb has been alight 24 hours a day, operating at about 4 watts,
to provide night illumination of the fire engines.

Where are the marching protesters demanding that this properly functioning and amazing light bulb be replaced by a mercury-filled CFL accompanied by a 12-page HazMat guide for proper handling and disposal when it fails or breaks?

doesn't baffle me in the least. Americans use to know how to build things to last. they had pride in workmanship. look at homes built in the same time compared to the past 60 years.

Yes, I have read about that bulb, that was back in the day when they made things that last, unlike today where they make things to not last so that you have to keep purchasing them. It's all a scam now, it's all about money and they can't make money on bulbs that last forever now can they?! And the ones that they are making to last are dangerous with mercury in them and they are terrible for lighting up a room. Plus they give you headaches, and who knows what else. I will never use them.

The cost of making a CFL just in power consumption to manufacture is over 10x. then toss in shipping cost/energy consumed and polluting. Everything in an incandescent bulb is recycleable and not harmful in any way. The actual cost of a CFL vs incandescents against end user energy savings... well in all reality, CFLs are more harmful to the environment.

because someone has money invested and China has taken the health risk so people in this country are protected by our Gov't along with the loss of jobs to make them causing people to be more dependent on our Gov't for entitlements

... did you know the EPA mandates haz-mat cleanup for any broken CFL's.

I thought they did at first but then they seemed to start to let up on that. I will not have those in my house, they can mandate them till the cows come home, it ain't happening. Not to mention that they totally suck for lighting and make you feel like you're going blind. The ex had bought some years ago before they were mandated.

I'm certified in Alternative Energy Education and Environmental Education. I'm the one guy in the classes that pissed off ever tree hugger and the instructors. Funny when I could prove false data and logic, they got hostile and threw personal attacks at me. Things like "you don't care about the future of our children" and "you have no clue what you are talking about" Actually I had more of a clue than the instructors. My background is strong in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Statistics. I was killing the classes with 100% factual data presenting in a logical and pragmatic fashion... When they can't handle the truth, the resort to personal attacks... totally hilarious.
