The AP and others are running a story celebrating the fact that Ancestry.com has found that 0bama "could be" a descendant of an African slave.
Not just any old slave, mind you, but the very first African slave in North America, LOL!
A careful reading of the story reveals it to be a crock of sh!t. The key sentence:
"Researchers are missing a record connecting Punch to a presumed son who by his early 20s owned 450 acres and grew tobacco in Virginia."
In other words, the link that would connect 0bama's family to this "first slave" does not exist.
But no doubt 0bama will include this non-fact in the next edition of his fictional autobiography!

Remember, ancestry.com is run by the Mormons.
The term "sold" was customarily used in speaking of the indenture of white servants for a limited period.
Lifetime slavery did not come into legal existence until more than 30 years later when , in 1653, a Negro named John Casor complained that his master, Anthony Johnson, had kept him in servitude some years longer than he should have, which was a serious offense. Johnson , frightened, released Casor from all claims against him, but then found that Casor had bound himself to one Parker who had aided him in obtaining his freedom. Johnson then sued Parker, claiming that he , Johnson, was entitled to the lifetime service of Casor, and won his case.(Johnson vs. Parker, Northampton County records)
This entitles Anthony Johnson to be called, "The Father of Negro Slavery in Virginia", and changes somewhat the complexion of "that pecular institution" because Johnson himself was a Negro. And quite a fellow! Apparently one of the original 20 landed in 1619, he earned his freedom in 1623 and acquired some acreage in Accomac. He imported some servants of his own and establishe...

Obama might be related to Anthony Johnson, you think?
I guess you could say his ancestors are composites, like the fictional people in his three "autobiographies."
Neither Punch nor Bunch is known to the Virginia Slave Name registry .

"Obama might be related to Anthony Johnson" ...have you considered that more likely its a snake?
Presumed? That is a lot like ASSumed.
What next?
Good LORD.
This means Obama's black half is blacker than his white half. And all this is miraculously discovered just 3 months before the election.
How hilarious. The guys in Chicago are really working hard.
Ew ew ew!

We explored thousands of historical documents in our research and discovered that John Punch, the first African enslaved for life in America, >>>>was<<&l...; the 11th great-grandfather of President Barack Obama. (emph added)
"Was" is the inoperative word. "Assumed to be" is accurate.
As they say in the press release:
"the surviving paper trail points solely to John Punch as the logical candidate."
IOW, it makes a smashing story, and it means our "years of work" won't have been a total waste of time.
That's VERY logical from their point of view!
In an Oct. 16 interview on MSNBC, Lynne Cheney confirmed the connection (to Obama) based on extensive research she did for her latest book, "Blue Skies, No Fences." However, she calculates that Obama and Cheney are eighth cousins, one degree closer than the Sun-Times has it. Duvall, according to Cheney’s research, was the parent of the husband of the granddaughter of a Cheney who bore the same first name as the vice president.
Obama’s other relatives, by the way, include George W. Bush, who, according to the Sun-Times, is his 11th cousin. They share the same great-great-great-great-great... a 17th-century Massachusetts couple named Samuel Hinckley and Sarah Soole Hinckley. And Harry S. Truman was Obama’s fourth cousin four times removed, the paper says. The New York Post, using ancestry.com, reported that Brad Pitt and Obama are ninth cousins. Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga told the BBC that his maternal uncle was Obama’s father, making them first cousins (we think).
You made me spew my vile pre-colonsscopy drink.
