The consensus amongst scientists is that we are only a decade away from the climatic tipping point – the point at which the global climate will become irreversibly unstable - and only by reducing our CO2 emissions can we push this point far enough into the future to buy us time to develop long-term solutions to the problem.

While major changes from governments and corporations will be necessary to make an impact, change start with the individual. With the information and tools available to us, each one of us can make small changes in the way we live that will contribute to a better climate.

Explaining that while there isn't enough fossil fuels to go around for everyone forever that the "science" of global warming is patent non-sense.

In this way I am laying the ground work for reasonable use of fossil fuels once this hoax passes over.

I'm burning all the Al Gore books that I can find to cut down on my electric bill. It's called the "Al Gore Carbon Credits". I just finished reading an article regarding global temperatures. January 2008 capped a 12 month period of global temperature drops on all of the major well respected indicators. It's reported that HadCRUT, RSS, UAH, and GISS global temperature sets all show sharp drops in the last year.

Many of the above -- driving less, flying less; using less electricity; recycling and creative reuse whenever possible; talking to others about it, although I'm usually preaching to converts, I find. Besides that, I've been concentrating on passing on what I can't use to those who I know could. I've given up paper plates, plastic cutlery and cups, and other petroleum-based products. Instead of cleaning chemicals, I use baking soda and white vinegar for scouring and disinfecting: besides being non-toxic, they're much cheaper, too! I use the public library rather than buying books and music, and, for gift-receiving occasions, I'm asking for 'gently used' books, DVDs rather than new ones. I've planted a small a balcony garden, which produces some nice, fresh vegetables and puts out oxygen to offset some of the carbon dioxide. For the rest of my produce, I buy mostly locally produced from a nearby, small market so I don't have to drive far. For gift-giving occasions, I've purchased trees on behalf of earth-conscious friends and family, but only those I know would appreciate it, of course. (One young couple asked for tree plantings, instead of the traditional gift of paper for their first wedding anniversary: rather than cut down a tree, we planted some!)

To flight global cooling, I insist on flying on a carbon producing nightmare private jet and live in a mansion that uses resourses like mad. Oh, sorry, that's what algore is doing. What am I doing? Nothing. Global warming is a natural part of the earth climate cycle.

Little, if anything. Man made global warming is unfounded and a hoax perpetrated by Al Gore, and the like, to clean up. Financially, not ecologically.
Read this http://www.theaustralian.news... I believe when you camp, work, or have any activity, you clean up after yourself. Don't throw trash on the ground and minimize your damage to the surrounding area, but you never, ever put the "environment" ahead of human beings. If the snail darter is going to become extinct to put in a dam and there is no reasonable way to prevent it, so long snail darter. 2000 acres out of 5 million acres, we should drill for oil in ANWR. Do it with as little damage to the surroundings as is reasonable, but do it.

I recycle and conserve as much as possible. I am not going to live in the dark,be uncomfortable in my home A/C on 68, heat on 70. I drive an SUV for safety and room and I like it. Why do the environmentalists want us to live like the caveman did?
  • [-] cid mary December 08, 2008 07:51:27
I applaud you for recycling and conserving as much as possible, but I don't think environmentalists want us to live in the dark or be uncomfortable in our homes, just not so excessively wasteful as we have gotten in recent decades. We're not being asked to live like cavemen, but more as our parents did. Remember your parents saying, "Turn the lights off when you leave," or "Waste not, want not"? We've been building homes 5 times larger than we grew up in. Many families own 3 or 4 TVs (not to mention multiple computers, game consoles, etc) and leave them all running simultaneously, whether anyone's watching/playing or not. That's not really necessary, is it? Would we suffer unduly if we all cut back just a little?

Mostly I'm trying to avoid all of the alarmists, such as the "celebrities" you referred us to on this poll! The amount of 'hot air' those people are putting out is creating its own problem. Actually, I am educating myself to understand the "theory" better, and the more I learn the more I am led to believe that it is utter "hogwash!'

The IPCC sold the concept with a lie, the phony "hockey stick" temperature graph which purported to show that the 20th century was the hottest in a thousand years. Then Al Gore reinforced that lie with another lie, the CO2 vs. temperature graph purporting to show that increased CO2 in the past has caused increased atmospheric temperatures.

LIE #1: The hockey stick graph is phony. When an independent scientist was finally able to obtain the algorithm that the IPCC's Dr. Michael Mann used to create the hockey stick, he discovered that virtually any input of data resulted in the hockey stick graph - the algorithm eliminated the two to three hundred years of the Medieval Warm period, when it was warmer than it is today, 800 to 1,000 years ago! How do you think the Vikings were able to settle Greenland, and why do you think they named it Greenland? Only today is the ice melting on Greenland to the point that they are discovering the Viking farms and...

PHONY "HOCKEY STICK" GRAPH, so wrong that even the IPCC dropped it from its 2007 report!

LIE # 2 is Al Gore's use of the CO2 vs. Temp. chart. In actuality, if you look closely at the chart, CO2 increases follow temperature increases rather than leading them! There have been a number of glacial periods throughout earth's history, and we are currently in an "interglacial period." CO2 'outgassing' occurs during interglacial periods as the oceans warm, much as the CO2 in a beer or Coke "outgasses" if you open one when it is warm!

interglacial periods oceans warm co2 beer coke outgasses open warm

Note Dr. Roger Revelle's name on the interglacial outgassing chart. He is the eminent climate scientist from whom Gore learned that CO2 is increasing in our atmosphere. However Dr. Revelle was no alarmist, unlike Gore, and cautioned that we "look before we leap" before taking drastic steps. Gore attempted to have Revelle, his mentor and hero, declared incompetent and possibly senile in the years before his death because of this disagreement. Real principled guy, that Gore! hero incompetent senile years death disagreement real principled guy gore

    Recycling

I recycle and conserve what I can - the reality is that if all of US 'goes gree' tomorrow morning we will have little or no impact because of China and India. It is good to be careful in the way we treat our environment; we are all environmentalist because we live here but pretending that the US is in control is silly. We need people like Gore to pay attention to what they are doing and stop trying to control the rest of us.

We should all recycle, because if we don't, things like plastic bottles will stay in land fills forever.Saving water and energy is important, too. We should all educate others about the importance of recycling, reusing, and reducing. We don't need huge SUV's and RV's to travel.Using a eco friendly car that gets good gas mielage and don't create emissions can make a great improvement in our air and riding our bikes more will also help.
