The thing about making biofuels, which is ethanol, there is a type of biofuel known as cellulosic biofuels, this uses food that in inedible, so we wouldn't be causing a food shortage. We just need to develop the technology a little furher for it to be successful.

    Ethinol REALLY EATS UP FOOD
PRODUCTION. The NAZI had a way to make fuel from the Earth itself, but those formulas all have had a problem. Again we're looking at viability and sustainability problems Ford figured out how to make nuclear automobiles, but they were too heavy back in 1957.

it is not the best way to go it in itself is not efficient,& shortens the life of your vehicle engine.

It's not sustainable. You have to grow corn and other crops to feed people AND for fuel, instead of just growing it to feed people. That will take up too much land. It will probably be more expensive than gasoline.

We can make fuel as they do in Brazil and other South American countries... use Suger Cane not corn etc, we have lots of sugar!

And you and some droolers here should go choke on your Depends!

I think someone should of been able to come up with a alternative fuel by know, and if it ends up being ethanol thats great. we should not have to depend on other countries and get screwed at the pump. I belive soaring food prices are a direct result of climbing fuel prices. Maybe the farmers can make a living if ethanol takes off. global warming does need to be addressed, but the usa alone can not slove the problem, other countries need to be involded as well.

Ethanol is a bunch of BS.

(Don't believe me? Shovel BS sometime, it's full of corn.)

The idea that taking resources that are already being used for essential things and diverting it for "alternative fuel" when this land is lousy with underground oil that is just lying around serving no purpose is just freaking ridiculous.

    STUPID idea.

There is no viable alternative. Ethanol = food, Hydrogen power = water. Using food for fuel just seems like a losing proposition. How about this - just work on using less altogether!

You don't have a choice that allows us to say -- no, it shouldn't be because it's not the right direction for alternative fuels. We need such fuels to be positive, and all ethanol is doing is adding to the worldwide food crisis.]

What we really need are good electric cars or better hybrids.

It is stupid to even consider using food for fuel. corn not only is used for human consuption but is also used for animals that we use for food. The fact that they are telling famers to not grow other crops because of the amount of corn needed to make ethanol will add even further with food shortages. There have been more studies to show that Al Gore is full of shit. The earths temerature has dropped not raised in recent years. There are more scientists and climatologist daily disputing his claims. What difference will the temperature of the earth matter if people aren't around anyways. There has to be better alternatives for fuel than using food.

Not only no but hell no! Takes more than one gallon of water to make one gallon of ethanol - try living without water; the use of corn is already having a huge impact on food prices all over the world; it cannot be transported by normal means(pipeline) because it ruins the pipe; and engine efficiency goes down by 15-20 percent as well as destroying older engines. Cannot help but wonder how much Al has invested in corn!
