As if Things Weren't Bad Enough, Russian Professor Predicts End of U.S.

In Moscow, Igor Panarin's Forecasts Are All the Rage; America 'Disintegrates' in 2010
By ANDREW OSBORN

MOSCOW -- For a decade, Russian academic Igor Panarin has been predicting the U.S. will fall apart in 2010. For most of that time, he admits, few took his argument -- that an economic and moral collapse will trigger a civil war and the eventual breakup of the U.S. -- very seriously. Now he's found an eager audience: Russian state media.

In recent weeks, he's been interviewed as much as twice a day about his predictions. "It's a record," says Prof. Panarin. "But I think the attention is going to grow even stronger."

Prof. Panarin, 50 years old, is not a fringe figure. A former KGB analyst, he is dean of the Russian Foreign Ministry's academy for future diplomats. He is invited to Kremlin receptions, lectures students, publishes books, and appears in the media as an expert on U.S.-Russia relations.

But it's his bleak forecast for the U.S. that is music to the ears of the Kremlin, which in recent years has blamed Washington for everything from instability in the Middle East to the global financial crisis. Mr. Panarin's views also fit neatly with the Kremlin's narrative that Russia is returning to its rightful place on the world stage after the weakness of the 1990s, when many feared that the country would go economically and politically bankrupt and break into separate territories.

A polite and cheerful man with a buzz cut, Mr. Panarin insists he does not dislike Americans. But he warns that the outlook for them is dire.

"There's a 55-45% chance right now that disintegration will occur," he says. "One could rejoice in that process," he adds, poker-faced. "But if we're talking reasonably, it's not the best scenario -- for Russia." Though Russia would become more powerful on the global stage, he says, its economy would suffer because it currently depends heavily on the dollar and on trade with the U.S.

Mr. Panarin posits, in brief, that mass immigration, economic decline, and moral degradation will trigger a civil war next fall and the collapse of the dollar. Around the end of June 2010, or early July, he says, the U.S. will break into six pieces -- with Alaska reverting to Russian control.

Americans are losing the delicate art of compromise. Without it, we won't be able to come together as a nation.

The same could be said for Iran. Anyway, I don't think we are. Barack Hussein is making some radical appointments in his cabinet, and some aren't even Democrats. I don't like the guy, but at least he's seeing that he's going to have to do more than just smile and make speeches.

I think this is wrong because ...

I don't believe it will happen...not in 2010 anyway..I can see a breakup of the US in the future between people who believe in a more socialist form of Government and people who believe in capitalism and a more free society based on the individual rather then a collective. I do not believe China, Mexico or Russia would control or influence any part of what was the US...come on Chinese influence in CA...now that's a clash of values! I would just hope it was done through non-violent means and of course that my state was in the capitalist part of the country...unfortunately I fear it would be part of the new socialist state...guess I could hope for a cash settlement on my property but either way I will remain a capitalist and move if need be.

The U.S. may soon be done as we know it but Mexico isn't getting anything except another Ass-Kicking, even if its only militia groups doing it. China can't get here but the islands are probably gone...who needs Porto Rico anyway? Russia...maybe after the Nuclear War. The world greatly mistakes us 'Appalachian Americans' in thinking there is not going to be a real 'knock down, drag out fight' in all of this nonsense.

Welcome to the ultra right my friend. I say lets take out the bastards now while we still can. Russia and China could lauch a combined strike on our proposed Moon base and our country, with Obama still saying; "Hey can't we talk this out?" While the nukes are on the way. G'Damn the Obamanation is what i say.

Wake up. When they nukes start flying all you'll have time to do is bend over a kiss your' ass goodbye. If you'd ever fought you would know it's not a good idea to start a fight you want be around to finish. War became obsolete the day the a bomb was invented. Humans are plain stupid to have taken 64 years and not figured that one out?

We are the only Super Power left for good reason. We will use nukes and they just bluster and bluff. If they push; we can shove em back; hard. Tactical nuclear strikes will be routinely used in the next 50 yrs. Go hide in your bomb shelter and do some more mental masturbation as your proved wrong; again and again. There has never been a nation on earth survive without using every weapon at its disposal. That includes nukes wheher you like it or not Nuetron bombs are our weapon of choice as it leaves little or no residual radiation and kills all he people without touching the oil derricks.

We can survive a nuclear first strike; they will not survive the counter attack and they damn well know it. So we can use nukes if and when we choose and they wont do squat.

Well, that may be true, but the fact is that at the moment, not every country in the world has the capability to create a nuke. This may be the reason why we're trying to prevent Iran from creating one in the first place. Once EVERYONE has a nuke, there will probably be no need for ground fighting, since everyone can just threaten everyone with a nuclear strike for doing anything.

Well it's sure a mess, I just feel if we continue with the same old approach the only result will be annihilation. By the way my grandad helped process uranium for the 1st nuclear bombs and took me to the nuke museum more than once as a kid in Oak Ridge, an issue I am familiar with. He told me that some of the scientists had to be locked up on base, went nuts just thinking about what they were doing. Imagine what it would be like to deal with an actual attack. The world would never forgive us even if we were alive to be forgiven.

I would rather be alive and guilt ridden, than dead and unable to go on with life. Also I would not be one of those cowardly weak scientists who couldn't come to terms with their role in completing the bomb. Just too damn bad. Get over it.
  • James Socrate... January 05, 2009 16:59:50

That's the point you would be dead. the nuclear tips on the weapons being used in Iraq have already increased radiation levels throughout the world. Do you understand what radiation does to dna? Those scientists had little choice in the matter. Plenty lost their lives to allow us to live today, and they were not cowards, and no coward could face up to solving the problems that we have created for ourselves instead of dismissing them saying that nuclear war is feasible. Have you ever fought war, been shot, had your' friends kill themselves due to injury recieved in war. If so it doesn't come accross in your' comments.

Anyone who wanted to construct a bomb would find it much easier to steal the materials from a country that has already produced them and assemble a bomb in secret. Which has been tried recently in an attempted theft of weapons grade uranium stored in , I believe S. Africa.

Strategic nuclear armament has been around since early sixties, when they also made the first Nuetron bombs. They are the weapon of choice in these low yield mobile artillary and shoulder mounted bazooka with nuclear capabilities.
The fact we havent used em yet is because of politics and miltary necessity. Push comes to shove we can and will use them. Bayonets were considered barbaric when they first were used too. Infrastructure is left in place by the Nuetron bomb with little or no residual radiation. Combine this with pinpoint accuracy capability and you have a mobile launcher that is a formidable strike brigade. You haven't seen any real war son and i hope you and the enemy never does see WWIII, because we Will Not Lose. Area 51 is testing the next generation and beyond space weapons and missle attack systems right now.
