Die, Humans! Is Mother Nature Sick of Us?

- According to James Lovelock's new book "The Vanishing Face of Gaia: A Final Warning," humanity is "Earth's infection" and mother nature may be trying to shake us just like the flu.

While in theory it would be extremely difficult to truly destroy this planet, it's not such a stretch for some scientists to imagine us making it a place that doesn't support humans. The planet would go on, the thinking goes, but it'd get rid of us much like we shake the flu.

Lovelock's thinking is that our increasing presence is getting things so out of whack that, in the manner of a human immune system, the planet has no choice but to respond. "There is nothing humans can do to reverse the process; the planet is simply too overpopulated to halt its own destruction by greenhouse gases. In order to survive, mankind must start preparing now for life on a radically changed planet." ... Read full article »

Mother Nature is sick and tired of the human race polluting her earth, her rivers and her atmosphere, destroying the planet. Earth is revolting against against the onslaught that is poisoning her.

    NATIVE AMERICAN PROPHECY

American Indians are a diverse ethnic group. Their languages, customs, social systems varied greatly. One common characteristic found in many Indian nations was an affinity to the spiritual side of life. Out of this came man prophecies.

One of the most fascinating set of prophecies comes out of the Hopi nation located in the Southwestern United States. Many prophecies foretold by the Hopi appear to have come true. Some of these are:

"The Fourth World shall end soon, and the Fifth World will begin. This the elders everywhere know. The Signs over many years have been fulfilled, and so few are left.

"This is the First Sign: We are told of the coming of the white-skinned men, like Pahana, but not living like Pahana men who took the land that was not theirs. And men who struck their enemies with thunder.

"This is the Second Sign: Our lands will see the coming of spinning wheels filled with voices. In his youth, my father saw this prophecy come true with his eyes -- the white men bringing their families in wagons across the prairies."

"This is the Third Sign: A strange beast like a buffalo but with great long horns, will overrun the land in large numbers. These White Feather saw with his eyes -- the coming of the white men's cattle."

"This is the Fourth Sign: The land will be crossed by snakes of iron."

"This is the Fifth Sign: The land shall be criss-crossed by a giant spider's web."

"This is the Sixth sign: The land shall be criss-crossed with rivers of stone that make pictures in the sun."

"This is the Seventh Sign: You will hear of the sea turning black, and many living things dying because of it."

"This is the Eight Sign: You will see many youth, who wear their hair long like my people, come and join the tribal nations, to learn their ways and wisdom.

"And this is the Ninth and Last Sign: You will hear of a dwelling-place in the heavens, above the earth, that shall fall with a great crash. It will appear as a blue star. Very soon after this, the ceremonies of my people will cease.

"These are the Signs that great destruction is coming. The world shall rock to and fro. The white man will battle against other people in other lands -- with those who possessed the first light of wisdom. There will be many columns of smoke and fire such as White Feather has seen the white man make in the deserts not far from here. Only those which come will cause disease and a great dying.

Overall, the theme of Hopi prophecy is that the Earth is going to soon go through a great purification and that humanity can make the decision as to how extreme this purification will be. Their belief is that the world goes through a period of destruction and renewal and that we are about to enter into a new age, the 5th world (or 6th depending upon the source).

Nothing especially wrong with fertilizers, especially those which are used discriminately, which is a wise course since going crazy with them costs too much money. Modern vegetable growing is pretty scientific. I'm not convinced that organic is better, save not using some chemicals.

That being said I grow my own, without pesticides. Aside some miracle gro it's all about the timing, rotation, netting and mulching. I walk the talk about good food.

I agree with you about factory meat raising, which I subscribe to avoiding whenever possible. Antibiotics suck, as does DES. Too bad I cannot afford it on a steady basis. I'm shifting over to veggies and grains - I have a fifty pound bag of Quinoa coming my way, with more to follow.

As far as "slam dunk" - anyone who writes about the Earth/Nature having some sort of intelligence or intrinsic mechanism for correcting people is talking non-sense. I don't take it well at all.

I wish I could afford your diet. Free range meat has a horrible premium and isn't worth it. I stick with grains, not organically grown but usually well prepared. Some fowl but not a lot. Factory farming is disgusting but who can afford free range? Not me.

You take "natural supplements". You take naturally derived vitamin C? Don't buy it. You get it from wher...

You take "natural supplements". You take naturally derived vitamin C? Don't buy it. You get it from where the rest of us get it - from vats in China - or you eat a diet very heavy in vitamin C rich foods. Nothing wrong with Chinese vitamin C, they have a better process to make it than in the west. They're also customer oriented, not all of them slip melamine into food, some are pretty damn reputable and work very hard to do it all right.

My point about being alive is that anyone who really believes that people are a "cancer" ought to do the right thing and get some chemo. IF you don't feel that way good for you.

As far as "medicated".... a lot of the problems from medication come from polypharmacy, often with the elderly.

If you're talking about MRSA and VRSA that's often caused by over worked RNs and swinish MDs who refuse to wash their hands. Nosocomial infection is a nasty thing, made worse by lax infection control protocols.

New antibiotics come into play. Too bad that in the US our FDA insists upon making things 'safe" and reducing "exploitation", as a result this suppresses R Oh well, they can always market them in China and Japan. No FDA or Trial Lawyers over there.

I agree that the "Western" diet sucks big time, especially our reliance upon "meat protein" for adults. Kids benefit from western diets since they grow taller and bigger but adults "burn out" with over eating. That's been demonstrated under laboratory conditions with animals. The more they eat the faster they grow tumors, develop degenerative diseases and then die younger than their controlled cohorts.

Then we have refined sugar... it's like crack only it takes longer to kill you. Worse still is high fructose corn syrup, meant as a sop to Agribusiness that works around the insulin feedback loop. Lovely and a good example of "Partnerships between Government and Industry' gets us all. Screwed.

    A good description...

A good description of the results of intensive vaccination comes from Ken Alibek's "Biohazard". He complains that his vaccination while working for the Soviet Bio-weapons system left him without a sense of smell, prone to awful allergies and that it "probably shortened my life".

How do you account for the fact that people live longer and longer each generation? What is so wrong with what we are doing?

The thing I've gathered about the cents (people 100+) are that they had a very physically active youth. Many of them grew up during an era where physical labour, physical activity, playtime, yard work/ chores/ farm work were necessary. So, that combined with what WASN'T around food-wise 100 years ago, I'd say that lifestyle set them up for positive gain the long-run. People today-- not the same lifestyle. Not by a long shot.

One last thing, Billy... diseases as a whole will never be eliminated until people are eliminated. As long as people survive, so will disease. They almost go hand in hand. Plus, if human ingenuity helped people escape Tsunamis, the Thailand *disaster* would not have affected so many people.

Some people did survive the disaster, specifically sea faring folk who knew from their legends that when the sea suddenly receeds that it's prudent to escape low lying areas.

The naive and stupid rushed out into suddenly dry areas to seek wildlife that was stranded, and died when the tidal wave came crashing in. Just because some folks were stupid doesn't mean that they could have known better.

I wouldn't be so confident about "diseases" always being with us in notable amounts. There will come a point where disease becomes so rare as to be almost unknown as more research on immunity and development is pursued.

What will always be with us is complacency and limits of knowledge. Which is why people will die of preventable causes like accident and violence. For example, when they rush into the tidal flats to gather mussles because a tidal wave is approaching.

Ok, I honestly laughed at the last part, "for example, when they rush into the tidal flats to gather mussles because a tidal wave is approaching." Yup, I know of people who are that daring, if daring is the correct word for them...

    But good responses nonetheless.

I know that human-generated CO2 has no significant impact on the earth's temp and that such fluctuations are tied directly into solar forcing.

human-generated co2 significant impact earths temp fluctuations tied solar forcing

I know that quite often when I "sound the alarm" about the usurpations to our Constitution that have occurred for decades, the intentional destruction of our dollar, and the ill effects of an imperialistic foreign policy, I'm called an "alarmist", a "conspiracy theorist", or an "extremist" - even when I provide solid evidence to support my case. But when I point out the "alarmist" nature being used to promote junk science in order to scare people into giving up more of their freedom and liberty to a power-hungry government, I get "what do you know?" responses.

I don't think that wiping the human species off the planet will be the planet itself's doing. Come to think of it, I don't think we'll all perish any time soon, either.

I understand what everyone (and the article) are saying, but the Earth itself isn't alive, so does it even have a brain to think to do that?

The earth is alive, so that alone shows what you don't know. Of course, she will not be alive much longer - she will become a dead planet at some point because of our own stupidity. But while your heads are buried in the sand, your asses are still sticking out so don't expect to get away scot free.

You don't have to go around insulting people. It's just my opinion. And I don't really think the Earth is alive, because rock isn't a living thing. However, the things on it are alive.
  • BillySteve S May 24, 2009 01:47:31
    BillySteve
The Earth is not "alive". The Earth does not metabolize energy. The Earth does not reproduce. The Earth does not grow. The Earth does not demonstrate negative entropy. The Earth has not tried to communicate with anyone in a controlled setting - believers aside.

The Earth sustains varying forms of life. It is easy to demonstrate this point

The Earth does not have a gender, because the Earth cannot reproduce. Therefore you cannot call the Earth "She" nor "He". The Earth is an "it". It does not have demonstrable intelligence. Its does not have emotions. It does not have rage.

Ascribing negative emotions as the causes of catastrophes is non-sense. The Katrina disaster occurred because of large Hurricane coupled with shoddy workmanship on levies. If a large hurricane happened every year and was just enough to overwhelm the levies that would be fair evidence of malicious intent of some agency. So far this has never happened.

The Earth is not alive and therefore will not be "dead", though some species may die. Most species do end up going extinct, that's the such ness of things.
