Question Technology

Could life have begun without some sort of information to guide it's course?

BillHill "In God We Trust" March 03, 2009 20:30:21

The retired Dr Werner Gitt was a director and professor at the German Federal Institute of Physics and Technology (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, Braunschweig), the Head of the Department of Information Technology. Three prerequisites must be fulfilled in order for the German Ministerium to award the title ‘Director and Professor’ at a German research institute, on the recommendation of the Praesidium. The person concerned must be:

A scientist. I.e. it is most definitely an academic title.

One who has published a significant number of original research papers in the technical literature.

Must head a department in his area of expertise, in which several working scientists are employed.

Professor Gitt’s Universal Laws for Information

It is impossible to set up, store, or transmit information without using a code.

It is impossible to have a code apart from a free and deliberate convention.

It is impossible to have information without a sender.

It is impossible that information can exist without having had a mental source.

It is impossible for information to exist without having been established voluntarily by a free will.

It is impossible for information to exist without all five hierarchical levels: statistics, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and apobetics [the purpose for which the information is intended, from the Greek apobeinon = result, success, conclusion[73]].

It is impossible that information can originate in statistical processes.

Information is essential for any type of creation from automobiles to universes

interesting point... what do you make of there being both information already embedded in us- our primal instincts and innate talents/skills, and information that is learned?(morality, arguably, and most skills except the ones we seem to have a natural aptitude for). i am an agnostic leaning towards belief in a Higher Power, but i wonder why one type of information is innate and the other not...however like you while i respect atheists, i do not have enough faith to be one

I agree, all things created require information first to become created. There has never been anything created without information but that's exactly how atheists want us to believe all life began. "One day all things were created out of nothing"

Not in the creationism sense, but information is required. We don't have thumbs out of accident, but because the information taken in found them useful.

My question then is, where did the original information come from?

It is impossible to have information without a sender.

The interesting question is: " can a random process create 'new' information or even discover/recognize 'old' information ? " Does not seem to have happened...yet. Is it 'forbidden' by conservation laws of physics?

    None of the above

Yes, it can mean software but it's also true with any information that is needed in any type of creation. If I build a model airplane I will follow the instruction (information) to complete it accurately. If I create a software program I need to build it though information which the processor can calculate. Without information in anything that is created there will be a non-functioning unit. My question was, "Could life have begun without some sort of information to guide it's course?".

Seriously, you are saying that if I just lay a CD disc down and wait long enough then it may become filled with music or a computer program?

But nature wasn't nature at one time. Where did it come from? Where did the information needed to create nature come from?

The explanations of this can be found in the Urantia Book
