Ricketts to Buy Chicago Cubs: Are the Cubs worth saving?

The Ricketts family has decided to buy the Chicago Cubs for $900 million, from the bankrupt media company, Tribune Co. The Ricketts will take over the Cubs in August of 2009. Tribune Co had been trying to sell the Chicago Cubs for two years, and had been losing money ever since. The Cubs haven't won a World Series since 1908, but have managed to keep their huge fan-base anyways.

Are the Chicago Cubs worth buying and saving?
 Yes! The Ricketts family shoud buy the Chicago Cubs!
No. The Chicago Cubs are done for. Let them go bankrupt.

    Yes! The Ricketts family shoud buy the Chicago Cubs!

    Of course, the team is worth saving, but it's going to take herculean efforts on the part of both players and management. There will be tons of hard work ahead, but the result may well be worth it.

    from a born and bred Chicagoan- as far as a series winner doubtful, financially, you'll never regret it. Let me explain. The white sox may win a world series every twenty years, but they will not get anywhere near the loyalty or numbers of the north siders. The cubbies however in a 100 yr plus series drought can finish in last place 12 years straight and will still sell out every home game they have. Hence the term Die hard Cubs fan.

    Is the price fair? YES, that is what the marketplace has determined to be the price for the Cubs. Besides, I am sure that befoe the offer was made, the new owners have determined that they could make MORE money than what they paid for it. Therefore, apparently, the Cubs are worth saving to someone that may know how to generate more money for their Return-on-Investment (ROI) as well as increasing its value for possible resale at a later date.

    This long standing baseball institution just can not die. Cub fans will commit homocide in the name of the mighty c. Perhaps the bears or the bulls, but not the cubbies.

    First off, it's "should" buy the Cubs, not "shoud." But I digress. The Ricketts family damn well better buy the Cubbies. They laid off enough people to make sure they had the cash!!!! If Pete Ricketts hadn't blown a big wad of cash trying to enter politics in the great state of nebraska, he probably would have had enough chump change to buy the Cubbies himself, without making it a family endeavor.

    This is a team that makes good money!I don't know if $900 million is a good price or not but if they could ever win a World Series the money would just come rolling in.

    I know they have a lot of die hard fans that would be super disappointed if the Cubs left, though.
