Matt Hughes and George St-Pierre are the two most dominant welterweights of this era. In their two meetings with each other, Hughes and St-Pierre have each emerged with a victory, leading to their highly anticipated rubber match on December 29th at UFC 79: Nemesis. This bout will determine which fighter is the best 170 lbs. fighter of this era.

    Has to be the Trigg Fight. That fight was the best showing of heart by an MMA fighter.

    THE COMEBACK HE MADE AFTER BEING IN SUCH A COMPROMISING POSITION WAS AMAZING! i HAVE THAT FIGHT ON MY DVR AND I WATCH IT ALMOST EVERY WEEK AND HAVE TURNED AT LEAST 15-20 PEOPLE ON TO MATT AND TO THE UFC JUST BY MAKING THEM WATCH THAT FIGHT WITH ME.

    It was a toss up between the match with BJ and the match with Trigg. I went with the BJ win because it showed just how much heart Hughes has and how you can never count him out. The Trigg was much of the same but he had been there before. Matt beat a guy in BJ who had beaten him previously as well as being one of the best MMArtists ever.

    This was the most intense match for matt hughes that I've ever seen. From the staredown to the seemingly impossible victory action was constant!

    All his wins have been great but the one where he came back from almost being submitted to submit Trigg was phenomenal!

    all of matt's fights are my favorite but I believe that god was with him in that fight against gracie...keep up the good work matt..hope that someday i can come watch you fight but these days it is hard enough to put food on the table for my family..

    I think that this fight showed that Matt is a strong competitor who is capable of defeating anyone - even those who beat him in the past. He is a force to be reckoned with in the octagon!

    I think this was his best performance becasue he bounced back after losing his belt to man handling Lytle to get a good victory. This is what all champions do when they lose they come back better then ever and I believe that when he faces GSP again it will be more like the first fight and Matt will walk away with the belt again.

    The win showed what a great fighter he really was. he got caught and was most people would have either been knocked out or they would have tapped. this is my all time favorite fight

    He took an illegal hit to the groin didnt get time to recover and then he defended the rear naked choke to go and submit trigg with one of his own great fight, the BJ Penn one was good too because he was losing early and came back to win it but this fight stands out more in my mind

    Hughes just toally dominated Penn in the thrid round after escaping a tight-@$$ triangle in the 2nd that would have ended most men's nights. Instead, he pulls out of it before the bell, then comesi n the next round, guns blazing, and makes BJ look like a heavy bag, picking him apart at will.

    I will always remember this fight for a couple of reasons: 1. This was my first live UFC event 2. Matt showed everyone what a GREAT fighter he is by coming back from a tight spot and getting the win with one wicked Rear Naked Choke! 3. My husband and I were the only Matt Hughes fans in our section :)~

    One of Hughes' best title defenses where he needed to pull out all the tricks he had in his book. This fight truly showed Hughes could stretch beyond his limits to go...ONE...MORE...ROUND to victory!
