Daunte Culpepper retires from the NFL: Did he get a raw deal from the league?

I.am.sofa.kingdom September 04, 2008 19:27:21

Daunte Culpepper retired from the NFL after there were no offers during his free agency this offseason. Culpepper was most recently with the Raiders, getting five touchdowns in five starts. Culpepper was a three time Pro-Bowl selection and was at his peak in the 2004 season before a knee injury in 2005 derailed his career.
I know I'm probably just being sentimental, but this guy deserves a shot somwhere.
What do you think?
The NFL is correct. Culpepper is no longer effective.
The NFL is incorrect. Culpepper had a comeback left in him.
You!

Their seems to be a lot of teams in dire need of quarterbacks . Maybe he wants too much $$$ .Personally I don't think anyone is worth what these athletes are making . Waste of money really . Give it to the teachers and police , fire department . They deserve it . Not these spoiled athletes and actors .

If he were effective he would have a job as a backup. He just isn't good enough. That injury really took away a little speed. He was a mobile QB, but without that mobility which he was used to he just couldn't adjust.

I am a vikings fan and as much as I am thankful to Culpepper for all his hardwork, I must say that knee injury really messed him up, Not to mention he was nothing without Randy Moss drawing double or triple coverage.

Sorry pal, life goes on though!

    I think...

The dude turned down a $1M offer from the Green Bay Packers to come in and be their backup. He doesn't want to hire an agent, and teams don't want to deal with him, because he's a surly prick. This is his own fault, and quite frankly, the guy never had elite talent.

He had a terrific line, and the best receiver in football.

    I think...

Fresh new season, and football is any given Sunday. Anyone can be good any year - look at last year's Superbowl Champs....
I think, with his injury, he was too much of a risk.
