Question Religion

What is it about "I don't believe in God" that drives some Christians insane?

I've noticed this in my hometown and especially notice it on this site.

I don't know...it doesn't bother me when someone tells me that. One of my best friends is an Atheist and others are Muslim and Pagan. My faith is my own and I don't expect anyone to believe, just as they don't expect me not to believe or convert to another religion.

    They have insecurity issues

Because most of them live by the misguided notion that they know something that you don't. They claim to "KNOW" God--who or whatever that is--exists, when in fact they don't KNOW anything, they simply BELIEVE God exists. When you say you don't believe in God, you are questioning their belief (which they confuse as fact) and being as arrogant as they are, they don't like having their belief questioned.

    They have insecurity issues

I find it very disrespectful when a christian makes it painfully obvious that they disapprove of a persons choices and have to convert them to their way. There way is not necessarily the RIGHT way, no matter how much they may profess to it being. Respect others and through that respect, more will be done then accusing them of being "lost" and "on the wrong path." It actually makes me angry even thinking about it.

They fear for their fellow neighbor's "soul"

A duty of all Christians is to help save souls. Hearing a comment like that is a very painful thing to a devout Christian as it clearly reflects a lost soul. It is also painful because I know Jesus is aware of every thought, hears every spoken word and knows his suffering the agony of the Passion for forgiveness of our sins will still not save many. I find myself many times apologizing to our Saviour for the treatment he still to this day receives from mankind.

    They have insecurity issues

They are driven by their religion to proselytize, so they are justified in trying to save you, by their own moral duty.

Their anger and defensiveness about being challenged with logic is an indication of the shakiness of their faith.

Idk it's not like they won't get to heaven if they see that someone doesn't believe in god. Maybe they should follow their god and mind their own business about things that don't affect their personal lives i.e. abortion rights, gay rights, atheism... you don't see god jumping from a corner every time someone commits a sin. He gave humans free will, if he wanted the world to be perfect, and for everyone to believe in him, then he would control everyone. Who gives a christian (a man) like you and me the right to tell me I am wrong, a sinner, and gonna burn in hell. I think religion should be stripped from the government, (this is AMERICA not everyone is a damn christian) so why dictate through religious values.

I believe there is nothing there rather than not believing in what is there. Yes, there is a difference. That said, those christians who go insane are intolerant and do not accept thoughts and beliefs other than their own.

They can't think outside the box

They take the idea of a good intention way too far and turn it into an arguement that's hard to repair. In their mind, they are 100% correct. If you do not have the same exact view as they do, it's very very likely you will be shunned and attacked for having your own beliefs. Ironic, seeing as how I was given freedom of choice by the very 'God' they claim hates me. It's like a Jehovah's Witness.

If they say 'God' wants peace, then why attack others? They don't know. They've brainwashed themselves.
