Is this wedding dress "offensive" for a Catholic wedding?

annamariesiobhan June 04, 2007 01:09:42

I was showing my wedding pictures to a co-worker when she commented that my wedding dress was not appropriate for a Catholic Church wedding because it was strapless. I wanted to cry. I want to know what you all think! And the pictures are from my wedding!

Did you love your dress? Did your future hubby like the dress? Did you feel beautiful? Hopefully you said yes to all... That's all that matters! It was your day and the co-worker has issues that go beyond your wedding dress.

I've never heard this before. Strapless dresses are very "in" right now. In fact, the last five weddings I've attended were ALL Catholic and ALL the brides had strapless dresses. I'd say your co-worker needs to mind her own business.

I think your co worker needs to STOP .You look gorgeous.Maybe that's the kinda dress she wishes she had at her wedding, but her bat wings got in the way. That or she was planning on buying a strapless gown for her wedding and you got married first. Some women can be tacky, sometimes the green-eyed moster rears his ugly head, getting the better of us.All that matters is did you feel beautiful ? Best Wishes to you both.

What does the Catholic Church have to do with your dress? Doesn't it have enough problems with priests that keep their pants on, they need to worry about a dress on a bride. I think your co-worker made that up.

I have been to several Catholic weddings where the bride's dress was strapless. I have never heard anyone complain.

    Maybe your co-worker is jealous.

This dress is not offensive, it's a lovely sight to see. If God would be offended by naked shoulders, he would have created us with covered shoulders by birth.

It's your day, and your dress. You're co-worker needs to be quiet. Some people have no manners and don't care what comes out of thier mouth. People like her should be turned into fruit tarts. Your dress is beautiful. I wore a strapless one when I got married. I have never heard of a church regulating the wedding attire. Best wishes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Appropriate for any Christian wedding. Muslims and Hindus would have a problem with it. Then again many Muslims have problems with western culture.

Hey, how about studying a little.I didn't understand Baptist's ideas or Rituals for worship at a Jewish temple, So I asked why. Took a class in Hebrew at Temple one time for that reason! It's enjoyable to learn about other peoples beliefs. Comments like that just make you look bad! I even like talking to the Mormon guys. Found out we have some things in common. Wow, there's a concept!

You looked BEAUTIFUL . Recently learned that about 90 percent of new bridal dresses are strapless; your co-worker needs to catch up. What is offensive, though, are the throngs of people who badmouth the Church only to show up when it comes time to get married, send (not bring) their kids for the Sacraments, funerals, etc. Hey, it's a house of God, not a rented hall. Anyway, best of luck Annamarie, and much happiness!

My neice had a strapless gown for her Catholic wedding, no one told her what she could/could not wear. You look beautiful!!!! If you had asked for your co-workers opinion about the dress, she gave it, I wouldn't be upset, just let it go in one ear and out the other,I'm going to check into this and see if there is a dress code for weddings at Catholic churches-there probably is not one

Of-course not! Strapless wedding dresses are the "in" thing. That sounds like Catholic guilt to me! You looked beautiful and we, your SodaHead friends, have better taste than your co-worker! She does sound very old fashioned; EXTREMELY old-fashioned, AND...how disrespectful to say that to someone about their wedding! I don't think I like her...I'm getting more angry at her the more I type! :(
