Meet Carlotta Valdez, an avid blogger who resides in Seattle, Washington. She has given up the Mormon religion to support gay marriage and 'No on 8' in California. It wasn't official that she had left the Mormon religion until she made it official with this letter she sent to her church:
-------------------------------
"Dear Mormon Church,
I've done my best not to hate on you guys. The church did so much for me and my family.
And for years I tried hard to be a good Mormon. Modest, pure, compliant and quiet.
I let you make me feel dirty and inferior for being female. For being a convert. For being intelligent and sexual and brave. For telling the truth even when it inconvenienced the congregation.
I listened to you reaffirm my "limits", my "place", my "role" as a mere woman in god's master plan. You told me that my only goal in life should be to marry and breed. That my highest joy should come from pleasing and obeying my husband.
I watched you try to convince young people that being queer was merely a phase and that their behavior was somehow warped. I didn't say a word.
I'm not going to do it anymore.
You supported Prop 8. You, an institution that is tax-exempt and federally protected, took the tithes of your members and supported hateful legislation that invalidates love and marginalizes human beings.
Too much, Mormon church, too much. I will be at the protests. I will fight to strip you of your tax-exempt status.
Take a good look at yourselves. What are you really afraid of?"

Thumbs up!
Good job, lady, good job :)Love is love, don't let anyone make you feel less human for being who you are. Don't you DARE feel the least bit ashamed at being homosexual, and don't let anyone tell you that they are somehow better than you because of your sexual preference. You are normal, you are wonderful, and you are beautiful, just like anybody else.
Undecided
I don't know much about the Mormon church so I can't really give an opinion. I like that she stood up for what she believed in.Thumbs up!
STRIP THEM OF THIER TAX-EXEMPT STATUS!Thumbs up!
She won't be the only one.Thumbs up!
If more people had as much common sense as her there wouldn't be any religous peopleUndecided
This is an individual choice. I can not speak for them as all anyone can do is what they feel is right in their heart. If that's what she's doing, then I am very happy for her!!Thumbs up!
it takes courage to stand up and speak out for what you believe inThumbs up!
Nice. She decided it was time to think for herself. I applaud her.Undecided
that's a trip! My sister is a moron, oops Morman, sorry I think they suck, still homosexuality is bull shit too.. get a grip and become what you were born to be....Thumbs up!
It's not always easy to stand up for what you believe in. Good for her!Undecided
I have mixed feelings hereThumbs up!
Good for her!!!Thumbs up!
Good for her.Thumbs up!
The Mormon Church,.. a cult of epic proportions, which mirrors middle eastern religions in the practice of polygamy and reduction of the dignity of women. If you truly feel that it would be dangerous to elect a moslem to political office in this country, you might want to think twice before putting someone from the LDS in charge, almost one in the same.Undecided
I'd really have a hard time relating to the problems she's facing. I'm not Mormon and don't know much about the religion. In the end she's standing up for her beliefs, in this case they're more important than the name on the church.Thumbs Down!
Booooooo!Thumbs Down!
Thumbs up for standing up to the stupidity of treating women like nothing more than baby makers. But call me silly ,men marry women. gay men have life partners. i do agree life partners should have sertin wrights and it should be left at that.Thumbs up!
That takes a lot of courage and integrity. Way to go, Carlotta!! The Mormons spent over 20 millions dollars on the Prop. 8 movement. Catholic church also contributed generously, but I don't know the amount.Thumbs up!
Good for her.Thumbs Down!
God made tab A to go into slot B. Got did not mean for an anus to be substituted by a horny, demented man. Do you have any idea of the promiscuouity of gay men? They're like dogs. To accept homosexuality is to deny God's magnificent design.I've read that a mans G spot is in his brown eye, so even some straight guys don't mind a little play in the rear.
Thumbs up!
I don’t care for the Mormon church or their beliefs. Women aren’t dogs! I had a male teacher ask me in front of an entire class once if I thought a women could do anything a man could, excluding getting someone pregnant. My response to him was the only thing I can’t do is piss in someone’s gas tank. Then with a very short pause I added, but give me a funnel and a hose and I can even do that! And as far as restricting people from marrying who they want, they are all about that. They trade their daughters out at 13.Thumbs up!
Good for you Ms. Valdez. You have made the correct decision. I, for the life of me, do NOT understand why anyone would want to tell another human being what is best for them--as if they could possibly know..? Not. WHAT do they care what others do in their private lives? God did not intend for devious people to conquer and divide those around them, and to do that intentionally, is a sin. So they are simply, hypocrites.Thumbs Down!
just because you gave up on Christ he has not given up on youthere is no such thing as gay marriage
marriage is only between a man and a woman
any other union is only a civil union NOT marriage
if that belief makes me old fashioned then I WILL REMAIN OLD FASHIONED!!!
GOD destroyed Sodom and Gamorah for the sin of gay sex or do you only read the parts of the Bible that suit your beliefs
Undecided
hell?Thumbs up!
There comes a point where you have to do what is right, not what is right for the church.
