Question Religion

Do you think of religion as group rules to follow, or as a personal journey of enlightenment?

So many discussions and judgments over who is sinning.
The journey of enlightenment takes a lot more work than following leaders and rules.

Following the rules keeps us good in God's eyes. Those that don't are wrong.

The journey of enlightenment takes a lot more work than following leaders and rules.

It's a personal journey. Many of the "rules of the road" are man-made. I find more truth in looking at the glory of the day and night, reflecting on my experiences, and assessing my relationship with God. The grass is the floor of my church, the sky its roof, and the four winds the walls. From all I've experienced in my 60 years on this earth, and my close encounters with leaving it, I have to believe in the Big Sky God, and that there is some purpose to my journey. I've always hated group tours, anyway.

Those who understand others are intelligent
Those who understand themselves are enlightened

Those who overcome others have strength
Those who overcome themselves are powerful

Those who know contentment are wealthy
Those who proceed vigorously have willpower

Those who do not lose their base endure
Those who die but do not perish have longevity

Jesus gave this as pure and perfect religion... to visit with widows and orphans during the time of their affliction....and to keep ourselves unstained by sin ( as defined by the ten commands given to Moses..not the ten changed ones Muhammed used. ) Seems to me just doing those 2 things as religion would keep a person busy for all their lives learning how to perfect themselves and their compassion for mankind alive. So..in a way.. a personal journey ..but definitely the best kind to practice as no one in it gets hurt.... any atheist ... any deist.any pagan ..etc etc etc can do this religion.

I know there are other religions out there who command beheadings etc...but to me those are religions made up by control freakish men.. and not from God at all. I love God and I believe God loves us all.

Ya know....I believe that there is a God because on the whole...I've had a pretty good life that seems to have had quite a bit of pretty good luck...and I just can't believe I've been that lucky w/out something looking out for me...but I'm not one to follow the rules and it really pisses me off that some people that believe are such pompous overly serious assholes...I just hope when I die...I meet a God who knows how to laugh loud and love me for my faults and all...I

The rules are personal, but the same for everyone who receives them. And they bring us together in unity.
