Court Says Ten Commandments Monument Endorses Religion

- A federal appeals court has ruled that a Ten Commandments monument outside Oklahoma's Haskell County Courthouse "has the primary effect of endorsing religion."

A three-judge panel of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sent the case back to federal Judge Ronald White so he could issue a new ruling consistent with theirs. White previously rejected arguments that the monument promotes Christianity at the expense of other religions.

The latest ruling prompted Haskell County Commissioner Mitch Worsham to say, "Whoever was the judge in this, I feel sorry for him on Judgment Day."... Read full article »

I support the decision of Mitch Worsham to not remove the ten commandments from the outside of the courthouse.

The country was founded on Christian values. The ten commandments are guiding principles, that are fairly common in intent to non Christian faiths as well.

If someone had a passage from the Koran or another religious text, would anyone make a big deal about it? I think not.

Christians will not be silenced by anyone, especially the courts or OUR elected officials, whose constitutional law was founded on Christian values.

This country is going to heck in a handcart, caused by insighters who want to bring this country down further than it already is.

I don't understand what the 10 commandments have to do with a judicial system anyhow. Of the 10 only 2 have any real bearing in our laws. Thou shalt not kill and thou shalt not steal. All the rest are only "laws" in the Judaic/Chirstian/Islamic testaments. Notice no Buddist or Pagan relics are ever posted like that. And if you honestly need some Parental figure to threaten you into not killing or stealing, you have bigger issues to deal with.

By the way the 10 C.s are inscribed in the walls of the Supreme Court. Removing this is the ultimate in Hypoc. don't you think.?????????

It merely states through Christianity and Judaism a set of truths that is found no place else. Of Course Atheisits hate it because It gives you the guide lines of life in a seriously small net shell. Endorse Religion??? I doubt it, but the atheists will howelbecause it strikes them in the face as a truthful way to live.

Seems to me there are only 2 of the 10 that point to God. I know it's not word for word. One would be "Remember the Lord's day and keep it holy" something to that effect and the other would be "No other Gods before me" I do not see any one of the 10 that endorses religion. What religion does it endorse. I guess that one about not lying is a big problem for lawyers.....................

This trend is leading where? We have freedom of speech but separation of government and church. Government doesn't have freedom of speech related to church. With all these interpretations perhaps we'll end up with a required label on all government property that states: "The views expressed or implied by this government building is not the opinion of the U.S. Government or any of its staff. We KNOW it looks very much like a Greek temple. It's not our fault."

There are a lot of pagan symbols on government buildings, including dollar bills, maybe they should get rid of that too? Paganism is a religion as well.

Here we go again... I thought we've decided this by now. The courts seem to continuously face the issue of displaying religious symbols on public property and whether that violates the 1st Amendment.

I don't think any question exists that our public government already has symbols endorsing Judeo-Christian values -- and did so at the writing of the US Constitution. Our Declaration of Independence says, "...all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator..."

The reference here seems equally endorsing of Judeo-Christian values than the Ten Commandments, which serves as the basis for the two major religions -- historically starting with the Jews, then Christians -- and a commonality with another major religion, Islam.

While I think it endorse certain values, it does not endorse any single religion. If it endorsed any religion, it would endorse Judaism because the first commandment says, "I am the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before Me..." which refers directly to the Jewish people.

I know, wish they would set it down and rule. last time they ruled it was to hear Ten Commandment law suits case by case. How confusing is that? Unless I missed a new ruling since then.

    Someone explain this to me.

If there is a seperation between church and state.
    .
how can they ( the appeals court )
even have a say so without violating that law?

them having an opinion and ruling is against the law. !

the ten commandments dosent endorse religion it,s a piece and part of the bible contents.

And no one endorses religion. people read or follow or not whatever path in life they choose. is that against the law too ?

what are we just there lil babies that they tell us what to do?

And here,s another way they violate the seperation from church and state , everytime someone gets called to the witness stand they say to them .

do you SWEAR to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help you GOD !

Sorry this is also a violation of church and state. ! ! !

AS THE CHAPTER OF JAMES IN THE HOLLY BIBLE STATES. = ABOVE ALL things my brethren SWEAR NOT neither, , by heaven, nor earth, NOR ANY OTHER OATH !
but let your nay be nay and your yay be yay.,

it,s for the judge and jury to decide if he,s telling the truth ,otherwise just let everyone go home after he lie,s to you.

no wonder we cant get nothing done there concentrating on bullshit all the time.

Sorry, but this is just wrong. The monument is part of our history and trying to remove just because some group doesn't want to see it sets a very bad precedent.

Whats next,... change our money because it has religious references? I used to live on "Church" street, does that name have to change too?

We have memorials to those who served and fallen soldiers all over this country, do they mean we endorse WAR as the answer to everything?
