Church in Los Angeles opens doors to dogs - Is this a good idea?

- When the Rev. Tom Eggebeen took over as interim pastor at Covenant Presbyterian Church three years ago, attendance was dwindling.

So Eggebeen decided to make dogs welcome at God’s house — by way of a 30-minute service complete with individual doggie beds, canine prayers and an offering of dog treats.

According to an Associated Press report, he hopes it will reinvigorate the church’s connection with the community, provide solace to elderly members and attract new worshippers who are as crazy about dogs as they are about God.

Eggebeen said many Christians love their pets as much as human family members and grieve just as deeply when they suffer — but churches have been slow to recognize that love as the work of God.... Read full article »

It has nothing to do with that. Everything has its place. Its almost akin to Hinduism in practice that is my point mind reader.

Just brilliant until there is a big ole nasty dog fight and some kid's face gets ripped off. What a circus some people are making of God's house. It infuriates me.

Me to. I like most all animals more than I like some people I've met over the years. In fact, I like all animals more than some people I can think of.

Considering that dogs don't understand God and don't engage in doing what God tells them to do or anything else, its kind of pointless to have gods come.

They are running out of people who believe in fairy tales so why not try dogs? To bad the gnostic Gospel of Rover was left out of the Bible.

A marvelous idea. For most of the parishoners, kids and the dogs. Whatever brings people to Christ in love.

I bet you it will get a lot more kids. They will beg to be brought to church.

As a small girl in the 60's, I would walk to church every sunday morning. My dog would follow. She sat next to me, stood when we stood, sat when we sat and bowed her head when we kneeled and prayed. She was better behaved than the kids. My priest loved her and even blessed her.
