Will Democrats get together to make BOLD, SWEEPING changes for America? Will you demand it of them?

Will Democrats get together to make BOLD, SWEEPING changes for America? Will you demand it of them?

5 answers, 0 raves

REPUBLICAN majorities and policies over 35 years HAVE RUINED OUR COUNTRY

WHY ARE THE PRESIDENT’S NUMBERS REALLY FALLING – AND WILL CONTINUE TO DROP?

He is playing politics as much as repubs and fails to see Americans recognize the game.
They thought (via his promises) he would end things like the 1.4 million spent a day from health insurance lobbyists raping citizens through policy costs. Rather WE SEE the reflection of the cash bills being waived in front of his/CONGRESS' eyes.

He has raped us by not going for Single Payer healthcare in the country - AND by AT THE VERY LEAST NOT created a HUGE public option to drive down costs.

And - he continues to, and instruct his (our) attorney general to avoid law - big, criminal issues.

AND - he won't close up the wasteful, scamming Faith Based Program costing Americans in courtrooms across the nation daily AND right up to the right wing Supreme Court Re; Separation of Church and State! And he has not closed down enough OTHER wasteful government programs.
NO American wants-or should have to pay MORE taxes for GREAT healthcare!

Dems also breaking up - NONE OF THIS IS GOOD FOR THE COUNTRY. And another generation will walk from voting and activity in their own gov process (just as with the Nixon pardon).

Soon - Republicans will be in charge - build up a short term seeming wealth for the middle/poor class (only to fail again)

History repeats itself UNLESS THE DEMS GET BOLD AND MAKE BOLD CHANGES!

Most often anti gay people claim "fine, be gay, but don't push it on me/us - we don't want to see it - how gross!" etc.....

Of course in any civil right struggle the issue is more out there to be seen....BUT......

It is no one's business who another loves, or how they do it. A relationship (not affair) after all, is emotional connectedness first.

How many straight people (married or not) look at another straight person or couple and "see them in bed in their minds, like they imagine gays?

If we minded our own business, showed some disipline in our thinking -we would not ALL be perverts. I believe this is scriptural, sin often happens in our own minds and we would do well to just worry about our own life, not judge others.

6 answers, +3 raves

      Coretta Scott King
"I still hear people say that I should not be talking about the rights of lesbian and gay people and I should stick to the issue of racial justice... But I hasten to remind them that Martin Luther King, Jr., said, 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere' ... I appeal to everyone who believes in Martin Luther King, Jr.'s dream to make room at the table of brotherhood and sisterhood for lesbian and gay people."1
"Gay and lesbian people have families, and their families should have legal protection, whether by marriage or civil union. A constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages is a form of gay bashing, and it would do nothing at all to protect traditional marriages."2
"We are all tied together in a single garment of destiny... I can never be what I ought to be until you are allowed to be what you ought to be," she said, quoting from her husband. "I've always felt that homophobic attitudes and policies were unjust and unworthy of a free society and must be opposed by all Americans who believe in democracy."3
"Gays and lesbians stood up for civil rights in Montgomery, Selma, in Albany, Georgia, and St. Augustine, Florida, and many other campaigns of the Civil Rights Movement. Many of these courageous men and women were fighting for my freedom at a time when they could find few voices for their own, and I salute their contributions."4
"We have a lot of work to do in our common struggle against bigotry and discrimination. I say 'common struggle,' because I believe very strongly that all forms of bigotry & discrimination are equally wrong and should be opposed by right-thinking Americans everywhere. Freedom from discrimination based on sexual orientation is surely a fundamental human right in any great democracy, as much as freedom from racial, religious, gender, or ethnic discrimination."5
"We have to launch a campaign against homophobia in the black community."6
"Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood. This sets the stage for further repression and violence that spread all too easily to victimize the next minority group."7
Coretta Scott King was the wife of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and a leader in the civil rights movement.

Yes

Unbeleivable depiction of the Women's Sufferage Movement up to around 1912 -18 Their nonviolent resistence during the war, holding the office of President and Congress accountible for their insistance to keep women as second class citizens, caused them to be thrown in jail. They went on a hunger strike, were force fed by the grossest means.

Women have ONLY been able to vote since 1920
(nearly as old as me)

I think when Bush talked to Hillary today, it was about, in part a women's resistence that might arise out of this election. What do you think? Possible?

My activism has only changed hearts and minds when I have gone to jail unjustly.

SuperDelegates Want One Thing Only; To WIN The Election and To Know The Nominee Will Do It. If Barrack is the nominee, will you continue to support the Democratic Party? AND What will you do now?

6 answers, +1 raves

I will leave my lifetime membership of the Democratic Party. I will vote for McCain. Sometimes folks have to agree to disagree - I don't believe doing this makes anyone unpatriotic. And sometimes you just have to put the blame where it lies and move on.

It's not being a sore loser as some will be quick to spout. It's not being unappreciative of Democrat Party loyals, who without the Party, we would not be seeing people of color or women running for president today, rather we'd be stuck with Republican white male rule.

It is genuine and justified anger at the DNC for lack of insight in planning and opportunism for the most gain in the end while Clinton had strong 70% leads from ALL the Party demograhics from newcomers and after Americans let our government know in 2006 they INTENDED to get involved in 2008 for change, before Barrack entered the race.

It is a fact that sexism is deeper than racism (in the beginning we were all dark skinned) - BUT women participated in sexism, holding themselves back because they feared, as they do now not to acknowledge their support of the "man is worth more" idea.

And all this the DNC could have given: 8 years of Clinton, ending that debate for change & equality and stop the current backlash on women, and Obama as her veep. Then 8 years of Obama, ending the race issue for a TOTAL of 16 years majority and good Democrat Policies and for CHANGE to be made, while ending 2 major injustices. This would have moved America forward. Like what happened in 2000, when the greatest issue was (still is) the Supreme Court nominations, it is beyond comprehension what has and hasn’t transpired in this election campaign.

Instead we have a split party, a youth accustomed to having everything handed over to them, not getting their hands dirty, inexperienced, maybe won’t ever vote again who does not have the desire to respect their parents work to finish the job of women's equality when after 35 years we are close enough to grap the win. Don't get me wrong - I LOVE OUR YOUTH!

I'm am sooooo heart sick - it's my turn now to just be true to myself and let the DNC know that I have been true to the party my whole life. I don't feel any more victimized than others today over what has transpired - only that I have to make a change for myself.

Yes

The media does not talk about the important issues facing America. They entertain. But it seems no matter how hard responsible organizations and people get out information on the issues to inform patriots - Americans STILL are voting in leaders via their emotions.
This has been a disasterous practice, especially with Bush/Cheney the past 8 years.

It has been our practice until Bush.
Americans pick a church/organization. Donations are taken for missions and do to good. We give to who we want to support.
That's freedom for all.
But now, the first act Bush did was to open his unmonitored Faith Baised Initiative Program, in which he gives the tax dollars of Americans (be they Hindu, Christian, Athiests, whatever) to tax free religious groups of his choice.
Many are obtaining land for supposed low income housing (right!) What to bequest to a nephew down the road? Billions have been given. They abuse the money, pocketing it for political purposes and to preach their religious views. Sometimes people are forced to accept their teachings or Jesus before they are given help.
THIS IS WHY WE HAVE A SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. The program is illegal. Obama is for it now that it's been used 8 years. Politicians must be getting something from it because I can't get the DNC or any key Democrat to comment on this - they want us blind.

Why couldn't Obama give America the gift the next 8 years of Hillary (part of a 40 year woman's equality momentum) by being her veep, which would end the debate from the beginning of time on a woman's equality as part of the human race? Then run and win for the next 8, for a total of 16 years for Dems to control policies. Two major birds with one stone.

I asked myself - Since he's an advocate for CHANGE, would he have the compassion, for the sake of America to change his need to run in this election to instead give us the progress and make those 2 things happen?

For me, Obama's candidacy has divided more people and the Party, while relatively unknown. His action lacks integrity to me. For Barack to insist that Americans vote for a woman or color in the same election, at such a critical and stressful time was not, in my view what Americans needed now.
