Why are the candidates being so secretive about who will be their chosen running mates?

Is there a reason that the information is being held so long this time around. It seems like prior to the conventions in the past, we always knew who would be who's running mate.

Usually done at convention, not always. There are many things to consider including abilities, strength to the ticket, and likability. Plenty of time, we will get there.

You think so - I was thinking he would wait until the convention. Do you think he will chose Sen Clinton? So many negatives said by Kennedy and Kerry about her but many still owe Bill - I wonder.

I had not thought about it involving the super delegates. Hmm that's a thought!

Cause Obama has already promised the spot to... Kennedy, Richardson, Kerry, Edwards and about a dozen others.
McCain is looking for Rove and Bush to tell him who he will pick (and no cheney you can't be VP again).
And Hillary Clinton can't find anyone smart enough to see her vision and strong enough to do the hard work. (except Bill... and no he won't do it)

Please, don't be so silly. They each will chose their running mate and will spend much time trying to pick the right person.

Obama - dunno, I am guessing Richardson maybe Edwards
McCain _ dunno, maybe Romney - I would love to see Colin Powell but he has said over and over that he will not run.
Clinton - dunno, she has so many really right people to chose from, maybe an ex-military

    Should be interesting

I will be as silly as I want to be and there's a lot of truth in my answer.

Exactly Jackie, I think a good example is 1960 when JFK was the Democratic nominee. They had it down to a science, they knew the states they could win and the states they couldn't. They needed Texas. Kennedy took LBJ on the ticket with him and they went on to win Texas and ultimately the election. Had JFK lost Texas, he would have lost the election. And JFK and LBJ were never best of friends.

Exactly - requires lots of information. Will be interesting to see how this one goes. You know I am #1 Political Junkie here!

After the conventions they will look at where they are strong and where they are weak, and then choose someone who they feel will balance the ticket.

Answered Because the candidates are still trying to read the public based on who the democrat nomination will be.

I think McCain will wait and choose someone that will counter the other candidate's popularity. As for Hillary, it might do her a world of good to go ahead and pick a potential running mate.

    Good idea!
