Religion - Islam
SHOULD WE ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN IN AMERICA?
Tyler Hurd only had to complete a student teaching assignment of 50 hours at Technical High School in St. Cloud, MN to complete his degree in special education and to receive his teaching certificate. He elected to quit his assignment, however, because of a death threat from one of the students. The threat of death was toward his dog, a black Labrador. Tyler uses a service dog to alert him of an impending seizure and to protect him if one occurs.
The area has a large Muslim population and they consider dogs "unclean". The dog suffered from taunts from some Islamic students and a threat of death because of his presence in the school.
Although Tyler elected to leave because he considered his dog was in danger of harm, no student has been disciplined as a result.

My point is simply that this is not acceptable behavior in Islam, and if they were operating under the idea that it is, whoever told them it is acceptable is dead wrong. I hate to see a religion bashed for the actions of a couple of sadistic kids, and whoever might have given them the idea that thier religion condons what they have done. That is all.
The little shits should be kicked out of school and straight into a jail cell as far as I am concerned. -

No, the little Basturds that threatened the dog should have gone
straight to jail. The animal is a legal medical device, used in a legal
medical way. Even IF the dog was "just a Dog," they had no right to
cause the disruption. Why is it that punks like this never cause SH**
when there is a person that is able and WILLING to strike back. (Maybe
its a Montana thing or a cowboy thing, but that would'nt stand here!) -

Muslims deserve EQUAL consideration in our society and under our laws, not special consideration. If they opposed the student's dog being present, they should have gone through the appropriate channels to make a change. But I'm pretty sure the appropriate channels don't include death threats. -

But, I kind of think it would have been like a KKK member going to the administration because they didn't want to be in the same class as an African American... I don't know, just seems silly to me.

No. Threats and violence should not be tolerated in a public school. If students are taught such things by their parents' religion and the parents approve, then they should at the very LEAST enroll their children in a religious school or private school where such anti-social behavior is accepted, or teach their children to refrain from such actions while in the public school environment. This is a given in a multi-cultural society with a long standing separation of church from state, but even more important in light of how poor the American education is and how hard it is to get and keep good teachers in our public schools. -

It's just so sad to watch our American way of life being threatened by these Muslim A$$holes and no one stepping up to do anything about it. Why do they think is it OK for them to make death threats against his dog (service or otherwise)? Why are there no disciplinary charges against these people? I can grantee you if one of them brought in their pet cow and someone said they were going to make hamburgers out of it there would be all kinds of charges and media attention! -

Where has our freedom gone? It's all tied up in political correctness...and our fear of offending muslims...it almost cool to offend Christians and jews...but dare we offend muslims we are in deep trouble...we have allowed our freedom to slowly disappear and allowed government to control more and more... -

Your culture is welcomed with open arms (well, by some of us...most will "just" tolerate you.); however, one must remember that the American culture is open for all nations around the world; a literal melting pot (though it's a bit of assimilation, but that's a different topic) and as so, that requires one's culture from another land to be tolerant towards others. I think that's horrible to threaten a dog's life.

It has always been my opinion, that if someone chooses to come to the US to live, they are free to worship as they see fit.. HOWEVER, they are to adapt to US ways, not expect the US to adapt to them. This applies to anyone who comes to the US, not just Islamics. -

The students should be expelled for harrassing a teacher. It is outrageous that we have to fight to keep "In God we trust" but Islamic students are allowed to harass a teacher to the point where a teacher leaves, and even get no penalty for doing it. -

Welcome to America people.I think we should make certain accomodations in certain areas for different religious beliefs(i.e. Kosher products) but this dog is literally a life ring for this kid; I think the threats against the dog should be taken as threats against him.
