As dark as the message may be, and as much of a Beatles fan as I'm not, I really believe this song holds a lot of truth.
I guess I could say that I wasn't a fan of the Beatles, but I'am a fan of John Lennon.
Either way, everytime I hear this song, I can't help but think about the apocalypse. So I try to avoid listening to it unless I know I can handle it. -

It's just that I listen to that song and can't help but think that his vision will never happen. We've become too materialistic and proud, condemning ourselves to a world where we've forced ourselves into this idea that our own "needs" (more or less wants) are the basic fuel for our existence.
We've taken our most valuable resources for granted and over-populated this world.
I guess it just reminds me of what it can never be, rather than what the song is beautifully trying to suggest. -

Parts of it are brilliant. In fact, all of it is brilliant, assuming he's right about religion. But for some people, religion gives hope where there isn;t any. Maybe instead of no religion at all, it would be nice if people could have their own beliefs without forcing them on others, whether religious or atheist. -

Wow, absolutely yes! John Lennon in spite of not professing to be religous was a most Christ like man in his messages where like Christ he said just look after eachother and everything will be alright. Man I remember when they killed him in I think it was '80 or '81, we were all so sad I myself cried and stayed drunk for days just listening to "Imagine."
Hey Liv, just FYI, Julian Lennon, John's son, did a real nice song to a while back. Not the same powerful message as the music of his father but still nice. It was called, "Much To Late For Goodbye."

It goes to the power of the human spirit, the ability to set the bar high. In the past we set the bar at many natural disasters, for example, and in the process of forgetting ourselves and our selfishness to reach out and extend a hand took a step forward reaching the bar. We took a small step toward reaching the perfect place that we can only ..Imagine. -
