Will this anti-smoking pill stop you from smoking, drinking and gambling?

A single pill appears to hold promise in curbing the urges to both smoke and drink, according to researchers trying to help people overcome addiction by targeting a pleasure center in the brain.
The drug, called varenicline, already is sold to help smokers kick the habit. A new research suggests it could gain a second use in helping heavy drinkers quit too.
Varenicline works by latching onto the same receptors in the brain that nicotine binds to when inhaled in cigarette smoke, an action that leads to the release of dopamine in the brain's pleasure centers. Taking the drug blocks any inhaled nicotine from reinforcing that effect.
A recent study suggests not just nicotine but alcohol also acts on the same locations in the brain. That means a drug like varenicline, which makes smoking less rewarding, could do the same for drinking.

Answered Yes

I have quit smoking using a pill, quite like this one, with 100% satisfaction. I no longer have an urge to smoke, so I would therefore say that it is a good possibility that it is very possible.

It also shows some promise to help with other addictions - drugs, gambling, etc. BUT, it has a side effect known now as "Chantix Dreams"....vivid, nightmare-like dreams that can be very disturbing (i know this 1st hand btw). Sooooo, it's important to get the dosage right. It really does help with smoking, tho. I just hope scientists are getting closer to finding an answer for addictions....

If this pill is successful, it will eliminate the need for birth control pills. If you no longer drink, smoke, or gamble... Might as well have kids.

We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights the right to life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness.
I'm pretty sure God wont force you to cease from your hedonistic ways to finding happiness but if'n yer wise you'll take a little advice from the written Word of the Almighty ...

Proverbs 5:1 ΒΆ My son, attend unto my wisdom, [and] bow thine ear to my understanding:
    2) That thou mayest regard discretion, and [that] thy lips may keep knowledge.
    3) For the lips of a strange woman drop [as] an honeycomb, and her mouth [is] smoother than oil:
    4) But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.
    5) Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.

Find a Parson if you don't have a Good Book, it's in there, but you don't have to take my word for it.

Wine, woomin and song may be ma enemies but the Good Lord said to love thine enemy...and I do...every night at the saloon!
  • raves     [-] by Jon
Pardon ...but do you mean by luvin' the lood woom'n at the saloon that yer fornicatin' 'em?
  • raves     [-] by Butch Cassidy
You better believe it, mister with an alacrity that defies deescription!
  • raves     [-] by Jon
    Mr. Cassidy,

Alacrity -Aah yes ... Cheerful readiness ... , I had to look this one up in the dictionary.

Then I think it only fair to warn you then that this is somethin' dangerous to your health ...

1Corinthians 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
1Corinthians 7:2 Nevertheless, [to avoid] fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

Jude 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

Mister Butch Cassidy, I feel I owed it to you as a fellow American that such things will bring down JUDGEMENT!!!

Submitted with much respect and concern, Jon

  • raves     [-] by Jon
Why's that Mr. Cassidy? You wouldn't be a callin' me out would ya? Cuz that 'ud be a mistake!
Just how big a boy are you anyway?
I'll bet a old 100 year old pig farmer like you has a back problem by now, like a yeller stripe maybe.

I don't call men out..I put men down.
Many a varmint has tried to get the better of me..where are they now?
One thing ya have to think when you come up against a old-coot like me is how did I survive all this time?
  • raves     [-] by Jon
I git riled havin' ta hide hid the woom'n and childr'n ever time fornicatin', bank robbin' pig farmers come ridin' thru town.
Shore would be nicer and better for the community if you would just surrender your heart to Jesus.
  • raves +1   [-] by Butch Cassidy
You surrender yer gold and yer woomin and I might consider.
  • raves     [-] by Jon
Already surrenderd 'em to the church! Jesus took control of the wife and the Parson took the silver and the gold. One tenth! Small price to pay for the blessins that follow! Give er a try!
Beats a whorin' and a shootin' it out with desperados lookin' for the bounty on yer hide! Gittin' on God's side and the peace of mind that results is worth it all ...home dirt! Do it afore someone puts a bullit in yer noggin!

Since when do we need a drug for every single aspect of life? It seems that we're being made into "zombies", but taking the Prozac, the Ritalin, Commit, Ambutol, Zoloft, Commit (another pill for smokers), Levitra (for ED) and the massive amount of other prescription drugs that they promote in every other commerical you see on television. It's a fact of life people that we should be able to deal with life situations without the aid of drugs. America, as a society, cannot function without the use of prescription drugs. It's disgusting. Let's just give all of our tax dollars away, and take whatever we need to take to be able TO FORGET all of our problems. It's all conditioning. I smoke, I enjoy cigarettes, and even if they kill me one day, I would rather spend around $4 on a pack of smokes, than $80-$200 on a bottle full of pills that may or may not help me.

Everyone dies, so you might as well live it the way you want to live it while you still have the time to do so, instead of worrying about what is going to "make you better".
