US Death Toll in Iraq War Hits 4,000! How optimistic are you that the U.S. will succeed with its mission in Iraq?
A roadside bomb killed four U.S. soldiers in Baghdad on Sunday, the military said, pushing the overall American death toll in the five-year war to at least 4,000.

    where would we stand?

You should have an undecided. Well let me first say that many people aren't very educated on the issure in Iraq, and thats why they all say they want the soldiers to come back. I think that it is our moral duty to stay, and not our moral duty to iraq, but to the soldiers that have already died.
If we pull out of Iraq now, there counrty will fall, and they will seek help from Iran, Inevitably starting just another war with America, possibly a Nulear one.
What message would we send to the soldiers, when we say that we know they wont suceed? We should atleast give them some help. I know that we will not totally suceed, but if we stay, we will be apart of something, that could possibly be great

What exactly denotes success? Those people are like roaches. It won't matter if we're there for 100 days or a 100 years. They will come out as soon as we leave. This war is REDICULOUS. They are there, thet are here, they are everywhere. We forever live in a world where we must look over our shoulder.

    Its so over...
We can't win even if we do....
But what is it exactly that we are fighting for?
    4,000 american boys are dead...
8,000 american parents will never see their boys again.
    That sucks.... that really sucks....

There is no clear definition of victory, but I know personally I would say victory is when we leave the middle east Iraq and Afgan are in better shape economically, socially, and militarily then they were when we first entered. Until this situation occurs we can not leave the Middle-East.

Emphasizing 4,000 troops does nothing. 4,000 troops in terms of war is a miniscule loss, especially when collected over 5 years. Freedom and safety do not come free. To ensure freedom continues and to spread it lives have to be sacrafised, just as they needed to be when we were fighting for our independance and freedom. I think the American people lost sight of that along the way. They lost sight of the fact that there are somethings bigger than the individual life. There are causes worth fighting and dying for. There are noble prosutes that will help mankind and the future of the human race. Americans have forgotten that most basic instinct that was instilled in our founding fathers. The founding fathers did not fight and die for themselves, they did it for their loved ones and the future hope of a better tommorow for all Americans. That mentality remains true today, whether or not the majority of Americans still believe in it is another thing.

We should never have gone to Iraq in the first place. We went after Saddam and gave Osama a free pass.

Why do you emphasize the 4,000 military casualties with an exclamation point? If you think back 6 or so years, we suffered 3,000 INNOCENT CIVILIAN deaths at the hands of radical Islam.

Our enemy is radical Islam. We must and we will win the Iraq conflict. We must and we will have a presence in the Mideast as long as necessary. That's where our enemies are located. You must wake up to the FACT that we are at war with radical Islam.
  • raves     [-] by Hitch
And what exactly is winning, hmm? And if you say that stabilizing Iraq is winning then you're a hypocrite. You say our enemy is radical Islam? Then we should be in Afghanistan. Wake up. Saddam didn't attack us on September 11, it was Osama bin Laden. That's who we should be focusing on if we want to "win".
  • raves     [-] by Roberto
You need to read up. Saddam was deeply involved with radical Islam. We are in Afghanistan. We should be in Iran too. Fortunately, our CIA is everywhere.

What would your plan be to deal with this situation? Seriously, tell me.

It just depends if the Iraqi Army can defeat the Mahdi Militia in Basra and eliminate the militia's leader. If that happens maybe the Iraqi Army can handle it by themselves and we can finally leave.

They've been fighting with each other over there since the year 632 and King George thinks he's going to stop it? What's going to happen when we leave? Maybe that's why Bush and Bush Light don't have any intention of leaving.

We are on the way to winning right now. Of course it is going to take some time. However, once Iraq can fend for itself, it will be very important to have a democratic ally in the Middle East.

We should not have gone there in the first place. Afghanistan was the place to go. By the way, I am not at all optimistic about how the returning wounded, maimed for ever, and psychologically disabled vets are going to get the treatment they deserve either.

There are 4,000 U.S. soldiers who have been killed, and 25,000 or more who have been maimed. There are over 100,000 dead Iraqis, a million or more maimed, mostly children, and millions more than that who are refugees. Success would mean stopping this, but I don't see that happening right now.

Hey wimps, get used to this. We lost once by fighting the politically correct war. Once was enough and it isn't going to happen again. We aren't Spain and we don't cut and run. If our law enforcement officers thought like you appeasers, they would have had to cut and ran out of St. Louis and Detroit which are far more dangerous than Baghdad.

If we keep the politicians out of the mix and let the generals do their jobs, I believe we will be successful.

Exactly right. With every soldier having to worry about how some reporter is going to spin an incursion for a politician to get some gain out of it, no wonder this is dragging on. Let our soldiers do what they were trained to do and this would be over in 6 months.

I am very proud of our military it is working and yes we have lost alot of
our men and women but, that is war. Nobody likes it just, look at the success and not so much on wanting a withdraw. If we pull out like
Hillary and Obama wants too it would be a mistake. The sugre is working.
We sleep at peace at night, our fear of attacks are lessing, and we can
go on vacation in peace, fly with caution. All this is due to our being
over in Iraq at war. It is not just about oil, Once the iraqis establish a
working goverment that can lead their nation to peace and their
mitlitary up to date then maybe a small slow withdraw can begin. I
have friends , family, neighbors that had served and it would be a
big mistake to pull out now. The lost of life is very low considering
the length of this war. In the twin towers in one hit look how many lost of lives. So
please understand the important reasons we at there. Support the
men and women there and be proud of them . They are fighting for you!!
I believe if we withdraw now , I would think in a few years we would be at
war again starting over and even more loss of life would happen.. Hillary
and Obama touch on this withdraw just as a political gain they both no
they can't pull them out, they don't have the power!!!

The death toll is one of the lowest ever for a major war effort, in the history of any large country. So as sad as that is, we are being victorious, and we can only be victorious if we keep winning, keep the pressure on and win.
