music has got to make you feel!! like sing along or get up and dance or make you think of someone or something. it could be none of the above. it could be all of the above.
A melody can be catchy, the words can be heart-grasping, and if everyone can get a message out of a song, then you've done your job. Being innovative has always been a goal, but I don't think any of these are enough.
You can write music depending on postulates like these and theory, but if you play the music, even your own, without feeling it, then you're simply playing out of a book.
Connecting with your music is the most important thing EVER.
Need an all of the above here as well - the most important thing about music is that it combines ALL of these factors into a strong, emotional connection between the performer and the listener. So often a song becomes inseperable to an event because of this - and many of our deepest and most vivid memories are tied firmly to a song.
I wish I could choose "All of the Above"... Mostly, I look for a good tune. The words and message helps. I loved reading the lyrics as I listened to the song to get more meaning out of it. But if I just wanted meaning in words, I'd read a book. Music has to have good "noise"
I just get a feeling. The words count for a lot but really its the composition and meldoy that hooks me in. Each song has its own mood/tone. Its so hard to describe
There are a lot of good things about music. But I would say the message is the most important, and what it means to you personally, and how it effects you. Music is a way of expressing yourself, therefore when you make music you are creating a message for others to find.
I have a hard time listening to even the best well written song if it doesnt flow well. For me, the music draws me in and if I can relate to the lyrics, if I can say wow that is so right..then it's a good song. I have a horrible habbit of once I hear a new song and fall in love with it...I listen to over and over and over until I get all the lyrics down...lol
I mainly just listen to music for the words, but when its accompanied by a great melody and a voice that sings from the heart, it really speaks to me and I can feel the emotions being expressed.
How it makes me feel. All of the above factor into the way a song makes you feel. I like songs that get into my mind, heart, and soul. That makes a good song. :o)
The most important thing to me is that something in it must speak to me... Whether it be the melody, the lyrics or just the overall energy of the song, something has to make my heart sing... :)
