Answered McCain picked Palin because
I think the party wouldn't stand for his first two choices, Joe Lieberman and Tom Ridge, because they're both pro-choice. So he reacted angrily (what else is new?) and said you want a pro-life candidate, here she is! Also, he just doesn't get women's issues, he thought women would vote for her just because she's a woman. -

I have a couple of theories, but not paranoid ones, or so I feel. It's possible that when the Party told him there would be a revolt at the convention if he picked Joe Lieberman that he remembered some recommendation for Palin and decided to spite everyone by picking her -- his usual anger mode at work. It's also possible that, again, having been thwarted over Lieberman, he turned to the neocons and simply accepted their recommendation. -

I'm still not convinced the choice was his at all. I think there were "John McCain doesn't speak for the McCain campaign" forces here too. I believe if he'd actually had the chance to talk to this empty husk for more than a day....he's have dropped her faster than Rev Hagee. -

He was looking to energize the Republican party by adding someone who hasn't been warped by D.C. politics. Someone who is willing to take on both sides and someone who people can relate to. For being such a newcomer to the national scene I think she has done a pretty good job holding her own.
