Maryland making all sex offenders put an orange pumpkin on their front door this Halloween with the words 'no candy at this residence'.......shouldn't all states come up with a similar idea??

I think it's a great idea. Maybe not the orange pumpkin, as I think that just might lure children rather than keep them away, but I think it is a very good idea and think that all states should come up with something like this.

*yes, for some reason I put 'but an orange pumpkin' instead of "put"

Answered Bad idea Natti.....and here is why I think so

    I think I simple

    nattiand simple

    would suffice.

A pumpkin costs too much & may attract the kids.

The point of the sign is that it is a signature sign so parents know why not to trick or treat at that residence.
Everyone puts No Candy on their door and children still knock on them. I take my kids trick or treating in Maryland in an area where there are alot of townhouses on hills with two levels of steps, I can't see the No Candy signs from the bottle but the signature orange pumpin is scene from a nice distance.

That makes sense, but I still think a pumpkin is iffy at best.
They could mandate the sign be placed near the steps, color code it & put S.O. on it. In the case of apartments, they could put the apt. #.
I really don't know. I don't have kids. The parents in each community could decide.

I agree. or some other symbol that will be signature.
I know it wouldn't be fair to the sex offender but I think they should always have a sign on their door deterring children from going there for any reason, not just Halloween. It's something to think about for next year, maybe they could use a sign that says no candy and put a police badge symbol on it or something a child won't relate to the holiday but will also stop kids from "egging" the house.
  • raves +1   [-] boredcolliedogRomney/Jindal12 replied to chelseyerin
At first I though the badge was good, but would that make kids think cops are bad? I mean, older kids talk & try to scare their siblings...at least mine did.
Again, I have no kids/no clue.

I agree that a pumpkin may lure children. But definately something to warn parents considering this is a holiday popularized by children walking door to door asking strangers for candy. That is like delivery service for a sexual predator... it even uses the ol' "want some candy" line! It's amazing and I'll probably sound dumb, but since I have no children I have never even considered that as a danger!

Better yet, can we just feed the offenders candy that makes them sleep forever? Pervs do not deserve to exist, or breath air the rest of us need to survive. Load them up and gas them, load them up and have a major accident off of a long tall cliff-oops. I hate pervs.

Answered Bad idea Natti.....and here is why I think so

I think they have done enough to sex offenders, first of all, some sex offenders are just 18 or 19 yr. old boys that were sleeping with willing 16 yr. old girls, I have 3 sons and know of alot of boys in that situation, they need a new definition of sex offender. also these people have to register as a sex offender and anyone can go on the internet and identify where they live, also there not allowed to live where children congragate like near schools and such. enough allready, besides the fact, if I wanted to draw kids to my house, I would put a big pumpkin on my door. duh

Yes I wish the distinction was made as well rather than just a generic label

It is a great idea. This way everyone knows not go to that house.
Better to be aware, than have something awful happen and everyone saying why wasn't something done.

I believe that it is smart because people need to know who the sex offenders are!
  • raves     [-] Lanikai replied to Kiba
Almost every state has an online registry and you can find the ones near you by posting your zip code. It then shows the photo and address of all in your mailing area. WE do not do halloween, but we do check the registry every week. Our PD has to send out a notice when one moves into our area. Dirty rotten b******s.

Halloween is a great thing for kids. The one thing we don't need is to fear child predators. I think this is a great idea for all states. Thanks Natti!!

Answered Bad idea Natti.....and here is why I think so

Parents should do their research. There is a website that you can see where sex offenders live and there is no excuse for any child to go trick-or-treating unattended. A pumpkin outside a house makes it look like someone in there has candy.
