GM is on the verge of selling. Toyota is outselling them. No, it wouldn't be devastation at all. The world will keep on going. GM has not produced cars that last and people are locked in to Toyota, Nissan, Honda. GM knows how to make a good ca now but even if they did Americans wouldn't buy them. It's about over for GM. Between the Unions and GM losing 2000 dollars per car at one time because of health insurance per employee they don't have much left.
If Toyota bought them out it would no longer be GM. -
raves Oct 11, 2008 01:59PM GMT (edited)Toyota blundered some when they changed their MO and started, slowly but surely to push their bigger vehicles. Take a look at the Camry, this was the biggest selling car since 1989----appparently that car is on steroids, and as it grew when the price of gas became reasonable Their sales are actually down significantly. Toyota of America is now vested heavily by United State based investors (hence "Toyota of America").
The absolute disaster would be a GM, Chysler, Toyota merger. -

If they tank, no one has to take over. They just tank and go out of business. No bailouts needed. No special help needed. Business will be strongest when it survives due to good business practice and planning. It's the free market and capitalism. Let GM find their own success, or lack thereof. -

MY BAD on this one. The first option should read, "Yes, this (GM Tanking) would be the ultimate devastation".
The heart of the matter I am trying to bring across is as follows: It is all about the perception of the country. If GM tanks, the already tarnished image of the Country will go from bad to absolutely awful. -

Answered No, we can't afford nor condone another bailout
A company the size of GM will be picked up by another private firm and operated in a manner that is sustainable. I'm amazed that GMs' management has handled the company so poorly. BUT I'll bet they were well compensated. -

Im sorry that people who worked for these irresponsible car makers are losing their jobs,,,, but I frankly think the government should NOT give them money but instead give money to NEW car makers of clean vehicles.
GM has had 20 years or more to retool their factories,, but they didnt spend money on that. The capitalized the profits and now they want US to bail them out... so not only does our tax money go to them to 'fix' their factories so they can continue to make money,, but then we have to buy these cars at jacked up prices that wont be ready to roll off the assembly lines for up to 10 years.
NO!
LET THEM FAIL!!
Take their employees and put them to work in new factories with new owners and let a NEW group of responsible people instead of handing more american cash to these GM guys who killed their own electric cars due to their deep ties with the oil tycoons!
Who killed the electric car?
Answered No, this would be the ulltimate devastation
