Do you use your religion to support your argument?

(This question is geared towards any person who has a religion, or believes in some sort of Higher Power.)

When arguing over abortion, stem-cell research, death penalty, gay marriage, etc. do you use your religion or your Book (if there is one) to support your claim/argument?

Answered I Don't Believe In Religion, But Here's What I Think...

If you do that, you haven't really thought things through.

No thinking man would consider the bible evidence.

    Answered Undecided

First, I don't argue with anyone about Yahweh
Second, normally I use HIS commandments and laws (Ten Commandments)
Third, I just put HIS TRUTH out there and HE will take of the rest

So you use God as evidence?
  • raves     [-] zcberry replied to Axl Snaks
i just choose to believe in a higher divine power. nothing wrong with that, and i will force my views on any one unless they ask me about my beliefs.
  • raves     [-] Axl Snaks replied to zcberry
    That's not the question
I asked if you use God, or The Bible/etc., as evidence in an argument

Answered No, It Is My Faith Not My Science

I have a Christion faith but even tho it says no to things like homosexuality, stem cell etc (But I am against the death penalty, but countries choose what law they want)
I'm not against it because it's what you think, your faith should have nothing to do with it

Answered I Don't Believe In Religion, But Here's What I Think...

I don't ascribe to a religion, but I do believe in it (funny wording, Snowflake).

It is the 21st century. Let's get past using pointless mythology for important social decisions.

    Answered Yes, It Is Evidence

Since I build my life around my religious beliefs then I would be a terrible hyocrite if I didn't use my religion to support my arguments. When I come to a point in my day where I have to make a decision I may be tempted to do something un-ethical unless I fall back upon my religious beliefs to make the right decision. You have probably heard the line, "What would Jesus Do?" That's one of the first things I ask myself.

I am not speaking about moral or inner conflict.
Or decision making (in a sense)

When arguing to someone about abortion, war, or even religion, do you use your faith as evidence?

Answered I Don't Believe In Religion, But Here's What I Think...

I believe in a higher power which could be anything that turns out to have been responsible for the long term evolution of the planets and all life forms and nature., however it's done. Not necessaily a physical being at all.
Trying to specifically enhance your arguments by religion is wrong because religion has too many fallacious, convoluted, and abstract arguments. Nothing in the Bible can be verified conclusively so why do people argue it? Faith is fine. Just leave it at that. No one knows the actual existence of a true God.

Answered I Don't Believe In Religion, But Here's What I Think...

If you can't produce evidence of your argument, it is, by default, false. As a lawyer, I couldn't win a court case just by telling the jury that I was up on a hill and someone told me that my client was innocent. there needs to be PROOF!

My faith determines what my argument will be. The world makes / changes the rules as it see's fit on any given topic, I choose God's take on most, if not all, matters. The world will tell you turds are tasty, and some will believe it...
rules sees fit topic choose gods matters world turds tasty

Answered I Don't Believe In Religion, But Here's What I Think...

I'll frequently use my humanist world view to make decisions; but frankly, if you can't back up your beliefs, using them in an argument is silly- and religion's such a boiling crow you might as well avoid the subject.

Answered I Don't Believe In Religion, But Here's What I Think...

Alot of people use religion to support their argument and force opinions on others, and most of these people are deeply misinformed on the topic.

Answered I Don't Believe In Religion, But Here's What I Think...

its important for people to try to view their faith with a critical enough eye so that they might understand that people of other faiths or no faith might have a different viewpoint about personal matters.

And where science and public policy is concerned, people of faith need to understand that church/state separation protects them more than it hinders them.

Answered I Don't Believe In Religion, But Here's What I Think...

People use the bible as a crutch. If they can't make a valid point, or they're too embarrassed to admit their logic sucks, they claim god is on their side. Isn't it funny how god always agrees with what they say in their head?
