If you're Janet Killen, who spent $5,500 and four years of effort earning what she thought was a master's degree from online college,Canyon College, then you're probably pretty upset about online schools. When Janet Killen presented her nursing degree in 2007 to Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon, where she teaches nursing, she was crushed to learn it was worthless.
Harvey Lyter, proprietary schools coordinator for the Idaho State Board of Education, said that under Idaho law, Canyon College doesn't have the authority to be giving degrees.
"The issue with Canyon College is that they're not accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, or the Idaho State Board of Education," he said.
A lot of online colleges are bogus, including the places that "accredit" them. However, a lot of online colleges are accredited and offer quality education. (more)

What a shame, I wonder if she has a recourse.My niece in law received her Masters from Phoenix University on-line, as she was teaching while studying for it..she did have to go to Phoenix for her graduation ceremony and to receive her degree..so, not all are bad.

the last on is for phoenix - yes they are scams and in it for profit and in the on line 'class' you will learn very little and get it done in no time at all
But mostly money problems. That's just not, in my mind, the same thing as a place that gives out phony degrees. It's bad, but not the same as what this poll is talking about.
