Are you an activist?

An Activist is someone who takes direct action in support of or opposition to an issue. While traditionally the word was used for militant protest, many modern Activists such as myself prefer non-violent demonstrations in support of change for the better.

If you've ever wondered what it feels like to be an activist, next time you're in Washington DC, stop by the white-house Saturday afternoon (or Sunday if it's raining) and join in the Bush protest or do a little protesting against Bush's war or find your own way to get involved and do something positive.

Take it very seriously; it's one of the things I can try to do to try making the world a better place for my daughters, and the other youngsters that will one day (hopefully) inherit this planet from all of us.

I know that feeling all too well. Often it has kept me busy in what would NOT have been spare time.... but it's important, so I do the best I can.

I don't really have the time for it. Even if I did I wouldn't involve myself. Sorry, I just don't get into that stuff. It's not me.

It's not for everyone... not nearly. It's one of many things in this world that are important but hard to find enough people willing and able to do... but that's just life. :)

So true. I've always figured that because there are so many people willing to go out of their way to do what they think is in their own personal interest at the world's expense, a few of us have to be willing to do what's best for the world at our own expense or on the average things would get worse rather than better. So far, I think we're keeping up. :)

I'd like to dedicate my time as an activist, but that's kind of hard when you can't find anyone to protest with. Also, i'm still in high school, so i might not have time. However, it would totaly join if there was some kind of activist group or clup at school.

Maybe... or perhaps if you start the kind of thing that you would want to join someone else in doing, other people who feel the same way may come to you. :)

Yes I am an Activist and my Union Affiliation has made me take up many causes, primarily helping working people... I also am an Animal Activist... I will take up any cause I feel is Worthy and not just foofoo...

Answered Good idea! I've never been an activist but I do care so I will look into it.

Never too young to be an activist. Just listen to a new-born when it feels uncomfortable with its new surroundings or some specific situation. :)

I used to live in D.C during the Reagan/Bush and Carter years. Lots to protest then.

I got very involved in the anti-apartheid movement and still believe that Africa needs help, desperately.

Today, with work and kids I don't get out like I used to. I put out financial support to causes I believe in, and spend time trying to spread the word as much as possible.
