Do you believe Senator Larry Craig engaged in lewd acts in an airport men's room?

http://www.rollcall.com/issues/1_1/breakingnews/19764-1.html

" Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) was arrested in June at a Minnesota airport by a plainclothes police officer investigating lewd conduct complaints in a men's public restroom, according to an arrest report obtained by Roll Call Monday afternoon.

A spokesman for Craig described the incident as a “he said/he said misunderstanding,” and said the office would release a fuller statement later Monday afternoon.

After he was arrested, Craig, who is married, was taken to the Airport Police Operations Center to be interviewed about the lewd conduct incident, according to the police report. At one point during the interview, Craig handed the plainclothes sergeant who arrested him a business card that identified him as a U.S. Senator and said, “What do you think about that?” the report states.

Craig stated “that he has a wide stance when going to the bathroom and that his foot may have touched mine,” the report states. Craig also told the arresting officer that he reached down with his right hand to pick up a piece of paper that was on the floor.
It should be noted that there was not a piece of paper on the bathroom floor, nor did Craig pick up a piece of paper,” the arresting officer said in the report."

It is very rare that a trained police officer will mistake someone's "touching" their foot with a "wide stance" or "picking up paper" (that was not there) for lewd conduct. The more I think about this, the more this guy might just be a perv, nah, can't be he's a senator, right?

He has a long history of similar episodes that were covered up. He is a dispicable person. He has been in a powerful leadership position for many years and has used it to suppress gay rights. He is obviously a homosexual and I guess the only positive comment about him is that he proves that sexual orientation is not a choice.

    But what a pathetic loser.

If he would have come-clean about his minor crime I have no doubt most Republicans would have forgiven him but time and again we find it is the cover-up that gets you in trouble.

After all the evidence against him he maintains he did nothing illegal in the airport men's room and lied to his colleagues about his plan to resign.

This is a man who has lost his integrity and should resign not because he is a homosexual but because he is a liar.

Thanks for your comment. I,however, do NOT think the republicans would have forgiven him -- they are homophobic and worried about scandals. Look how fast they distanced themselves from him the minute this story broke. Absolutely the reason he should resign is because of his lying and hypocricy. Not because of his homosexuality.

Too bad you have fallen prey to stereotypes.

You must not know many Republicans...I know a few and none of them oppose openly homosexual politicians if they have similar values.

    Define "lewd acts."
  • raves +1   [-] Rosemary replied to <--That guy
Synonymous with lascivious -- used in the legal description of criminal acts in which some sort of sexual activity is prohibited. Public restrooms are for peeing and pooping -- not anonymous sexual encounters. Airports are full of kids.

"Out" self-actualized gay men do not seek or need anonymous sex. They seek and need partners for long term relationships which include sex, just as self actualized heterosexuals do. Healthy and legal sex should be between 2 people who love each other
  • raves     [-] <--That guy replied to Rosemary
If by lewd you mean lascivious, then yeah. Craig was trying to pick up some guy in the bathroom. Since sex was probably on his mind, you could call his acts lewd.
I don't want to knock the guy for hitting on someone--even though Craig has a reputation for being a bit of a homophobe--but getting it on in the John is probably not the best place to do it. Why not take it to Motel 6?

It does not matter one way or the other. What matters to me is the man who has been in the Senate over 40 years who admitted to making a bad decision and left a young woman to die in his car. He is also well known for his womanizing and drunkeness. He should have been out of the Senate when Mary Jo died. Oh for those perhaps too young to remember...that would be Ted Kennedy. And it would be interesting if you checked the dates of both Mary Jo's death and the death of JFF Jr. Interesting.

Too many "holes" in his story.

He doesn't describe dropping trou - why not?

He doesn't describe taking paper and wiping - why not?

He doesn't say what he did after supposedly picking up the paper from the floor - where did he put it?

Why would ANYONE pick up a piece of paper from the floor of a public restroom?

One thing that really creeps me out - he ADMITS to peeping into the stall next to the officer, observing the occupant stand up. ANYbody caught looking into my stall while I'm in there had better start running because they're getting pummeled when I catch them......

If he was not guilty of anything than why did he plead guilty which is what I do not understand. It also sound like he thought just because he was a senator that he could talk his way out of anything. I wonder if this sort of thing has happen before or something similar that he was able to sweep under the rug but this time it won't go away. It is possible he may be a closeted gay or even bi-sexual man and can't admit to it.

Should find out if the next stole policeman was a liberal democrat......totally kidding.
He is guilty no matter how you look at it. If he has not done it , he should have done everything to clear the charges.

If the policeman in the next stall was a liberal democrat, we would have completed the act, then black-mailed him into voting for same sex marriage.

Conservatives do not have a monopoly on honesty but you could say that compared to leftists, conservatives have a strong market advantage.

If he was innocent, why did he plead "guilty"? Every person is innocent until proven guilty. He was his own jury.

This guy is one piece of work. First, he is stupid enough to solicit random men in public restrooms for sex. I wonder what all he has taken home to the wife over the years – “Oh honey, I’ve GOT something for you”. Maybe their doctors give them volume rates…

Then, he gets himself off on a lesser charge of disorderly conduct in order to suppress the facts of similar incidents going back as far as 25 years or more.

Next, he claims that pleading guilty was a mistake and that his lawyer was a moron for allowing that to happen (well he probably got that right because he represented himself). Now he wants to have his conviction overturned.

Then he claims, “I am not gay”. Um… I’m not sure what he thinks we are supposed to conclude from that statement. I think that most gay and straight people alike would agree that trolling restrooms for sex with complete strangers is disgusting behavior.

The only honorable thing he can do is resign. If he doesn’t by the end of this week, then those in charge need to begin action to remove him from office. If you live in Idaho, I hope you are demanding his removal – voluntarily or otherwise.

    Answered No

One of the tenets of our society is the notion of "innocent until proven guilty", however in our current media frenzied society it much more often "looks like they did something guilty, let's see if they did". There have been plenty of cases of police misconduct, fabrication, etc. to make being skeptical of the officer's claims just as easy as the senator's. America is one of the most sexually repressed cultures in modern day society (and yet we're also the adult film capital....go figure) so it is easy to see how a simple act could be misconstrued, particularly in a bathroom.
