Will you see Tropic Thunder or will you boycott?
Several groups that advocate for the disabled are calling for a boycott of the new film Tropic Thunder, starring Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Tom Cruise and Robert Downey, Jr. There are currently 22 groups protesting the movie's satire. The groups are particularly offended by the repeated use of the word "retard" in regards to a subplot character that Stiller plays called Simple Jack. What do you think of this?-

I'm not a big Ben Stiller fan and my personal thought is that all the movies I've seen him in, was simply not my cups of tea. Although with Tom Cruise, he starred in what I think is the best movie ever made.(Ledend) Iprobably won't be seeing Trop-Thun any time soon. But I think people who want to boycott a movie has a much bigger problem than they want to admit. If you can't distingish dry humor from reality. For entertainment purposes, if you can't make fun of whom ever you want then we might as well end comedy as we know it -

I will see this - people need to loosen their pant belts and know that this world is not all hell bent on political correctness and maybe laugh a bit - besides if they have so much time to bycot a movie maybe they could do something more constructive, like plant a tree, read a book and other things that would not associate thier hurt feelings -

Are you kidding me? Boycotting the movie for overuse of retard? Nobody boycotted The Ringer, and the word retard was used a crapload in that. If you think its offensive then fine dont see it, but why boycott? Stupid. The movie looks hillarious and I intend to see it -

I'm black and I'm not offended by them having Robert Downey Jr. in Black face so I don't see why people with disabilities are being so sensitive about it. The movie is a satire and satire is about showing the extremes and how absurd those etxtremes can be. -

I think people need to remember the fact that these type of movies are fiction. People today are too sensitive and lawsuit happy. Anything to gain a buck or attract publicity. Why didn't they call for a ban on Forrest Gump? OH because it was Tom Hanks and not Ben Stiller who was portraying a retard...lol

I work for an organization that provides services to the mentally and physically disabled. I'm also a woman of color and I've heard JDJr plays a Black man in this film. Humor comes from reality, so I'll probably see it, enjoy it and afterwards have opinions how both could be done differently. Things aren't black-and-white for me...ever.
