Will you see Tropic Thunder or will you boycott?
Several groups that advocate for the disabled are calling for a boycott of the new film Tropic Thunder, starring Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Tom Cruise and Robert Downey, Jr. There are currently 22 groups protesting the movie's satire. The groups are particularly offended by the repeated use of the word "retard" in regards to a subplot character that Stiller plays called Simple Jack. What do you think of this?

I recently saw the movie Tropic Thunder. It was funny as hell. The plot of the movie was somewhat silly though. The three characters that Stiller, Downey Jr., and Black play were hillarious! I can see why some people would get offended by some of the things in this movie unfortunately I'm not one of them! Each character had their own background history which was really funny. Stiller's character was often being criticized about being a retard. You have to go see the movie to know what I'm talking about(No pun intended to the handicap)! Black's character was portrayed the be a millitary vet ,(if you all saw it, you know what I'm talking about) on drugs! And finally Downey Jr. character was probably the best! A little over the top but funny as hell! He was an Austrailian actor who had done a major surgery on himself to cast for a role in a movie. The role was a black man!!! I'm a black man myself and I really wasn't offended, though I was laughing my but off in the movie theater. Like I said before, I can see why some people would be offended. This movie isn't for everyone. If you see it, you have to walk into the movie with an open heart and not be bias towards the criticism its been taking! If you have a since of humor, than you will be laughing throughout the movie. -

okay seriously the people who are boycotting this movie just need to get a life! Its just a movie like there hasn't been movies before that have made fun of disabled people! And its not like boycotting some movie is going to keep people from say stuff like that all the time! -

This movie was great!! It was one of very few that I have decided to buy the DVD before I even finished watching the movie. As for the groups, get over it. Theses groups are the reason that so called "issues" are actually issues. It's a satiracle comedy for crying out loud. It's not meant to make a statement or address anything real. To all these groups I would say, don't be so retarded about this. Are you going after the makers of fire retardant next? -

I work for an organization that provides services to the mentally and physically disabled. I'm also a woman of color and I've heard JDJr plays a Black man in this film. Humor comes from reality, so I'll probably see it, enjoy it and afterwards have opinions how both could be done differently. Things aren't black-and-white for me...ever.
