they are pretty similar but the one they used is much better, the joker isnt meant to be creepy. he's meant to blow s*** up and be a villain. not a slasher -

Agreed i like the Joker they went with. The other Joker looks to...fake i guess thats the word. Like a halloween costume. The Joker they used did look more real with the outfit, make-up and all. -

It's not the scars that make him. It was the tics and mannerisms. Ledger pulled off the Joker as I'd always imagined him. The dark place that needed to be found to pull him off wasn't from the scars. The make up accentuated the scars and made him look even more twisted. The other concept would have been too distracting from his persona. -

The Joker was originally, well a joker! These concept images stray too far from the original character, whereas the Joker decided upon has the dark side in him, but he also has that funny side that makes him The Joker. For anyone who has seen the film, "Do you want to see me make a pencil dissapear?" Dark, but hilarious!!! -

The concept they went with as we all know created history, so I couldn't imagine them going with the earlier ones, simply because of the fact that the earlier concept(s) looks too creepy and would not sit well with many audiences as they want to see the face not look away from it or look at it with disgust. Another important factor that would go against the earlier concept(s) would be that you cannot see and relate with the emotions the joker character would emote and would not evoke sympathy or any such feelings. Heath Ledger, has portrayed the character so brilliantly, his emotions, everything came accross with such impact with his sheer acting brilliance, its simply amazing. He portrayed and redefined the joker in a realistic yet fascinating way. Heath's joker will remain legendary. R.I.P. Heath Ledger ~Gone but not forgotten~ -

The Joker wasn't suppose to be creepy. He was suppose to be mentally unstabled, and very deranged. Hi make-up and pretty much his whole wardrobe reflected that to a T. -

Those other concepts are pretty weak in my opinion...I mean it's ok to take liberties with the character but it's still got to BE the Joker...not just some scary looking guy with scars on his face. -

If the storyline was different I could see them having used the other concept, but for what the did with the movie the concept they went with just fits. I can't see the other concept in any of the Joker's scenes. -

too creepy, Although in the last picture i didn't like it because it seemed to unrealistic. I love the final joker because he seems so real, His hair isnt a vibrant lime green and his suit isn't nice and neat.( and so on) -
Answered They should of used these early concepts for Heath Ledger. This Joker looks much more creepier.
Creepier and uglier stuff usually adds effect to the movie, which gathers more people. Everyone would have probably been creeped out a bit, which means it worked. -

those were cool. but i like heaths long hair. it fit well. and even though those scars were longer in the other concept art heaths looked nastier. and that top one looked like leather face. i never thought he was all that cool. -

the earlier concept is too creepy, like for a horror movie, not a super hero movie. The concept they went with is better because it better portrays a psycho.
