I didn't think of "White Power Southerner" when "Billy Boy" was running either!

Although it does excite me that we could have a person of color in the "WH" it is not the reason I will be voting for Mr Obama. I would vote democratic not matter what unless the candidate was like Hitler or something.

No! Neither would gender have crossed my mind at the poll. I vote democrat. So it wouldn't have mattered which candidate had won the nomination.

Race will cross my mind when I vote for Senator Obama. This is undeniably a historic election year because we have never had an African American nominee before. That, of course, is not why I'm voting for him. If I thought another candidate would be better for the country, I would vote for the other candidate. In this case, I have no question of which of the candidates will better serve the American people, and I will be very proud to vote for Senator Obama.

I'll be delighted to know that I'm voting for the first Biracial president of the United States. I think that's totally cool.but it's not a reason I'm voting for him,

Race has never been an issue with me in any decisions
I have had to make. I brought my children up with more
black friends then white and have taught them color doesn't
matter, why would I go against everything I have taught them?

I'm asian, so I have no grounds to be racist. I'm neither black or white, so it makes no diffence whether obama or mccain is black or white. It's all about the ballot.
  • raves +3   [-] by trader
Being Asian does not preclude someone from being rascist. Not attacking you nor calling you a rascist. All races have rascist individuals.
  • raves +2   [-] by diaverde08-probama/McCool-idc
But i'm not one of them. I'm just saying that even if i was racist, I'd be equaly racist against blacks and whites. Thus, the race issue has no standing difference between the running candidates.

Yes, but not the big issue. My concern for voting is a person not a party. I want top vote for the right people who will represent my country and people.

I cannot honestly say that Senator Obama's race will not cross my mind. After all, this is the first time in 220 years (and the first time in the nine Presidential elections I have voted in) that someone other than a white male is a legitimate candidate for President of the United States, not to mention by at least some estimates the "favorite".

But I think about his race not from the perspective of "is a black man qualified to be President" - I think Senator Obama is qualified to be President because of his ideas, his policies, and how I perceive his character, not because of or in spite of his skin color.

I think about it in terms of how electing a qualified candidate who happens to be black will affect the extremists in this country who show no tolerance for anything other than their own narrow view of the universe. I think in terms of the Timothy McVeighs out there whose view of patriotism is to destroy that with which they do not agree. And this forces me to take into account one more factor in casting my vote - is Senator Obama the kind of man who can handle the reactions of those few extremists, who can keep this country from chaos? I believe he is, and that ultimately just gives me one more reason to vote for Senator Obama.
