That is a question I could only answer when it presents it's reality to me. I would love to keep the child, but at the same time a commitment like that can destroy marriages. I can't begin to imagine the cost. My wife and I possibly having to move in with our parents to help with the financial burden and the precious time away from work to deal with the appointments involved and care for the special needs. Boy, that could kill anyone. -

We don't get to pick and choose the condition, God does. Somehow or another, that spirit soul was placed in that body according to God's mercy and justice, and we have no authority to veto that decision. We have no way of knowing just how our lives and our hearts can be touched for our own spiritual benefit and elevation, and it seems to me that those children, by God's design, serve that very purpose. To kill them is also killing the opportunity that God has given us to advance. As far as the "quality" of life that the child has, once again we have no way of determining how God defines "quality" of life, so interference based on some sentimental definition from a materialistic perspective is ignorant. -

children are the proof that god has mercy. taking the life of a child is to ruin the future and everyone in it. no matter how handycapped a child is they can still make a difference through the miracle of there life. they could strive to live and become an inspiration and a part of every one they meet.

I have an aunt and uncle that raised a downs child John. John is the second oldest child born of five. The family is an awesome, loving, cohesive group with the John as the nucleus. I honestly believe John made the family what it is. Out of all my first cousins (30+) John is the most memorable and the most fun to be around. Some would call such a person a curse. They call him a blessing.
On another note a co-worker told me an amazing story. His niece, who was pregnant, had the amnio test done. The doctors, several of them, told her that the child would be born with significant heart problems. They suggested abortion. She carried the child to term. The doctors scheduled the induction of labor with a team of doctors ready to do immediate surgery to save the child’s life, if possible (the odds given weren’t good). The baby was born 100% healthy. The doctors were 100% certain of the child’s condition before birth. -

10 years..10 minutes...10 seconds...I will still love my child and embrace that child with everything I have. Love for a child is a feeling noone can replace, duplicate or take away. I would never miss out on feeling that feeling..even if only for 10 years..... -

Actually I would give birth to the child but would ask that it not receive blood transfusions or a Tracheostomy.I would not want to prolong it's suffering and I would live with the knowledge that God called that child home after getting a body. -
raves +1 Mar 24, 2008 09:00PM GMTPerhaps but in my personal beliefs I don't believe in blood transfusions or the cutting of human flesh. The kindest thing to do is to allow the child to receive a human body and then return to God. In a way I would be placing the child in God's hand and allowing him to do what is best for him or her.

And leave it up to God. How does anyone know before a child is born how long he/she may live, or how retarded a child may be. In any case, a child is a treasure as long as you have him/her. If a doctor would tell me I only have a particular time to live, I would not just lay down and die. Only God knows these things for sure. I work under the assumption that I could die at any time. Every moment is a gift.
