Gene Wilder. Johnny Depp was too weird, totally reminded me of Michael Jackson. I thought he was going to start molesting those children at any given moment.

    This was another example of hollywood trying to remake a classic-can not be done. Depp is a great actor, but this role was all Gene Wilder.

    Johnny Depp did a good job, but Gene Wilder was absolutely amazing in the role. (and his version was better)

    I have both old and new Willy Wonkas and both of them kept me laughing...but Johnny Depp seemed crazy...lol

    Wilder was always a classic. I love Depp but in this role it was like he tried to rehash it too much. I know it was the writers at fault.

    Both did a great job at making Willy Wonka into what was needed for the movie. the movies were so different i think it's unfair to compare them as if they were simaler.

    I loved the first Willy, Gene Wilder just had that sinister, sarcastic side that made the movie. I liked the second one, gave a little more background on Willy, and I like Johnny Depp. But the first one was better.
