Casey Anthony, the mother of a missing 2-year-old Florida girl, was charged Tuesday with child neglect and lying to investigators. Her daughter was last seen in mid-June, and authorities said they'd found evidence of human decomposition in Anthony's yard and car.
Sheriff's deputies said Anthony's car smelled of decomposition, and a cadaver-trained German shepherd noted a smell of human remains in the car and her yard. They said they found a stain, dirt and what seemed to be Caylee's hair in Anthony's trunk. A search of the yard turned up no body.
"The risk of her flight if she is released on some low bond increases exponentially, especially now that she's heard this additional evidence and that she is their person of interest," said assistant state attorney Linda Drane-Burdick.
Deputies emphasized they were still looking for the girl - alive - and urged anyone with information to step forward.
Defense attorney Jose Baez requested bond around $10,000. He said Anthony's family can't pay a high bond and she has the right to freedom while facing lesser charges.
"This is not a capital case, and if it were they certainly would file it, if they had evidence to," Baez said. "There is circumstantial evidence of a possible homicide, I will give them that. But circumstantial evidence has not made them confident enough to charge her with any specific homicide or kidnapping, or any capital offense."
Anthony's parents became concerned after her car was towed from a check-cashing business where it had been parked for days. She and the child lived with her parents, and she told them she worked as an event planner at an area theme park.
Investigators say Anthony was unemployed, and a purported babysitter seems to never have existed. The mother and child hadn't been home in the month before investigators were notified that Caylee was missing. Investigators believe the girl's father is dead.
Anthony's mother, Cindy Anthony, acknowledged in court that her daughter had lied before, but said she was a caring mom. The registered nurse believes the girl is alive, and Casey Anthony lied to police because she was somehow threatened. Cindy Anthony said she would even sell her house to free her daughter.
"I know Casey as a person," she said. "I know what she is for a mother and I know there's only one or two reasons why Casey would be withholding something about Caylee. I believe that it's something that someone is holding over her and threatening her in some way."
Casey Anthony's face filled with tears at the hearing, watching her parents at the witness stand and again after Strickland set bail.
"Casey, we love you!" yelled Cindy Anthony as the courtroom cleared.
Her daughter nodded and sobbed before being led away in chains.

Answered Who knows. The grandmother is hiding something
Thank God that Casey is back in jail ( although on other additional charges) and her bail has been revoked, HOWEVER I believe that the grandparents know alot more than they are letting on, maybe they should hold them for the allowable 72 hours and see what shakes loose, I get the feeling neither mom or dad will fit well in jail and one or both will crack, I wouldn't ask any questions for the first 24 hours, just leave them in the cell with nothing to do but think it over then haul them in for questioning and see how fast they talk. I think that poor baby is deceased too, and it really is horrible, and it is begining to look as if everyone involved is going to get off scott free, because with out a body they can't bring murder charges and I am sure that she knows if she just keeps her mouth shut long enough she might just get away with it. What a shame, and unfortunately it is happening more and more often every day. -
Answered Yes. This mom is obviously the killer.
This case is so horrible and all these idiots getting involved now turning it into a 3 ring circus. This little girl is more than likely dead and I hope this girl gets the death penalty when they finally charge her with the murder. I think the charges are coming just around the corner. -
The body is going to turn up eventually. I really don't think that the mom Casey buried that child that deep. She is too lazy to work much less dig a deep enough hole to bury that poor little baby in. I think the mom realized once she found her daughter that her precious Casey was responsible for her granddaughters disappearance...that's why she washed those pants in the trunk. The whole thing stinks too high heaven of cover-up by both the grandparents and the brother Lee.

I have no doubt whatsoever that the mother killed this precious little girl....if my child were missing it would not take me 4 weeks to report it, and I would not be out partying, and all smiles with my friends like she was caught doing! I would be beside myself with worry and fear for my child, and probably on sedatives! -

...and now there is the lead concerning poured cement on July 4th. This combined with the ambiguous statements coming from the grandmother raises suspicion. They may be covering up a tragic accident...another big maybe. -
Answered Who knows. The grandmother is hiding something
You know what? That's the problem with our justice system today. Too much publicity. People are given too much information and allowed to try the case in their own living rooms even before the first court appearance.
How can a jury ever be selected who hasn't been tainted by the information already made public? It sure makes the DA's job easier doesn't it? -
Answered Who knows. The grandmother is hiding something
there could have been an accident and mom and grandma are covering up for each other .the dog was trained to find dead people not pizza good lord did someone test the stain for dna and the way the world is maybe grandfather had something to do with it and is holding something over her and threatening her in some way."She and the child lived with her parents.yep that's what i'm putting my money on we'll have to wait and see -
Answered Who knows. The grandmother is hiding something
It sounds very suspiciously like the mother murdered her child. Lots of creepy circumstantial evidence. Why did she borrow a spade from a neighbour? The grandmother is in denial, and being very defensive of her daughter. I guess we we will all just have to wait and see how the court decides. -

Answered Who knows. The grandmother is hiding something
I think the mother did something or knows something. I also believe the grandmother is a nut and hiding something. It's a shame too. Parents and grandparents are supose to protect not neglect. What has happened to our morals and standards? My heart goes out to that child of whom I believe is dead. How awful!!!
