SODA HEADS HAVE YOU NOTICED?
I was bouncing around on polls that I don't usually go to the other night and I noticed that liberals were talking to liberals about how bad conservatives are and conservatives were talking to conservatives about how bad liberals are.
Come on now soda heads, this is just plain silly. How are we ever going to solve any problems or even come to some sort of an agreement if we are only going to speak with people of like minds.
I realize that liberals hate conservative ideas and conservatives hate liberal ideas but, the problem is civility. We have lost the ability to debate without hatred. I will discuss anything with anybody if they speak to me with respect and don't use nasty words and insult me.
I thought we had a community here on soda head. Is it possible for us to start TALKING to each other without spewing evil vitriol back and forth? I think so. So I will start by asking a question that is open to all soda heads to answer and debate with all soda heads. The idea here is to see if we can be respectful human beings no matter what our ideology.
Question: Will America be a better place with a McCain presidency or an Obama presidency and why?

Answered McCain is more experienced

And much more diplomatic, plus he respects both sides and he certainly sits more in the middle than any other candidate.

I'l stick with the experience. Obama can't seem to tell the same story twice.

McCain wasnt my first choice but will be my next! Obama isnt the one for the US at this time or any other time unless he stops buying votes from the dumbmasses!

this is a good idea perks.. but i dont think its gonna last.. this is the first time we ever had a commie running for president.. well informed Americans are bound to get fired up..

You're probably right dahacks, but I just got tired of everybody yelling and screaming at each other and getting nowhere. Liberals will at least listen if you talk respectfully and this election is to important to not get your point across. We have an obligation to America to try and change as many liberal minds as we can. If speaking with respect will accomplish that, then I will do it.

McCain is the only choice for America at this time. He may not be the choice I wanted, but Obama does not love this country and has no idea what he is doing.

Answered Obama can bring the country together

I think he can work towards bringing this country together (like you're trying to bring SH together!), but he will also try to cooperate and work with other countries, rather than ignore or slam them, getting us nowhere. He may be young, but maybe that's beneficial. He may have lived in another country, but maybe that's beneficial, etc. I believe in this candidate, I truly do.

Thanks for weighing in DV. You know I don't agree with you but, I appreciate your thoughtful way of expressing yourself.

I have to say perks this poll truly impresses me. I take back most of the nasty things I've thought about you. I can think of nothing more productive than people of differing opinions coming together to discuss what they have in common and how to reconcile what they don't.

impresses nasty ive productive people differing opinions discuss common reconcile

Thanks Starr. And let me appologize if I may have said some bad things to you. I think we all get caught up in our emotions sometimes. That's why I thought this might be a good way to try and defuse some of the hatred. Thanks for stopping by.

Starr, that was perfect. Nice going. Do you think if we keep telling people to be nice to one another that they will start to change. I want to know why the other side thinks the way they do not just hate them.

A few people around here might pause and listen a little, but I fear that in Washington that's too farfetched to hope.....

The problem is that people are getting emotionally involved with their candidates they are convinced their pick is the best pick and at that point anyone disagreeing is personally attacking them somehow. I don't understand it myself why can't people debate their points without name calling? As for who will be the best president right now I'm not too crazy about Obama or Mccain.
  • raves +3   [-] by perks
Thanks Angel I think you get the point of the poll. I agree with you, I'm not crazy about either candidate.

You mean about the canidates or the poll?
  • raves +2   [-] by Angel
the candidates, everyone is all about the two of them and neither one has really shown that they are capable of handling the job you know?
  • raves +2   [-] by perks
Yes, I agree completely. I hate to have to vote for the lessor of two evils but, it looks like that is the way it is going to be again.
  • raves +2   [-] by Angel
unfortunately, its too bad. I just hope that whoever wins this time gets the economy back on track otherwise....
  • raves +2   [-] by perks
I don't want to think about the otherwise. I'm a conservative myself so I will have to hold my nose and pull the lever for McCain, lol
  • raves +2   [-] by Angel
LOL! hold your nose huh? I am really not feeling McCain for the simple fact that he doesn't seem to want much different than the current president. Obama's policies on how to protect our borders is more than a little alarming....its too bad its like one extreme to the next with these two and no happy in between.
