Do you think Heath Ledger was as good as the comic book Joker?

I haven't read the comics, but I love Ledger's Joker. He was a much more real character and that made him scarier.
You can't compare Ledger's Joker and the comic book Joker. They're completely different (in a good way).
In The Dark Knight they change Joker's history. It works, but he's not the same Joker. In my opinion, Ledger really improved on the Joker's character by making it more accessible to the audience- they don't understand him by any means, but they're a lot closer to it than to the previous Jokers. -

But my son, who is a mad Joker fan (and who is in his 30's) , was telling me he thought, from previews, that Ledger's Joker was too serious and that he might not even go to the movie. I haven't asked him yet if he went -- keep meaning to call and ask, but not at the right hours.
I know, though, that movies made from comics are often displeasing to the real fans. Indeed, you can't make a movie based on another medium without displeasing someone. For me -- I loved that movie -- it was amazing. -

You can't compare Heath Ledger's acting with the Joker from the comics. You are comparing apples to oranges. Heath Ledger didn't write the Joker's parts he just acted them. You can ask "Was the Joker's character in The Dark Night on par with the actual DC Universe Joker?" Even then you are comparing a mountain of material vs. one short story arc so its not a fair comparison. I liked Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker. I also think that he could have pulled off the more complex Joker story arcs of the comics. -

yeah the comic book was the original but that doesent really matter, yeah jack did do a great job but not as good of a job as heath ledger when jack played the jocker you can tell that was jack but the way heath played that role was amazing you cant tell its heath you only see a maniac named the joker -

Although I haven't seen the new Batman movie yet (and won't until it hits On-Demand), I find Jack's Joker a tough act to follow! Heard to believe anyone could be as maniacal as Jack! LOL
However you did forget about Cesar Romero's Joker in the TV Batman series.

I'm a huge fan of the comics of course there are differences between the too... HOWEVER Heath Ledger truly played the clown prince of crime the way he was meant to be played... and in a way we've never seen outside of the comics

Anyone who hasn't read the comics wouldn't know several important things about the batman series or any movie series in particular... the comics made the movies to me pointless
