Brett Favre: Will he make a Green Bay comeback?

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback sent a text message to team general manager Ted Thompson on Monday, it is looking increasingly likely that Favre will publicly announce whether he is indeed planning to end his brief retirement and return for an 18th season within the next 10 days.Whether Favre will be welcomed back by the Packers - a notion once considered unthinkable.

It is a budding public-relations nightmare for the Packers, who may have to tell the only three-time NFL Most Valuable Player in league history and franchise icon to seek employment elsewhere if he is determined to come back.

Yet avoiding such a PR fiasco could be among the reasons why Favre may be forced to reveal his future plans sooner than later.

On July 19, Favre is scheduled to appear at the Packers Hall of Fame banquet to present former lineman Frank Winters, one of the three inductees and one of Favre's closest friends.

Favre is obviously aware that his appearance at the event will dwarf the celebration for Winters, so perhaps the only way to somewhat quell a media frenzy would to make a definitive statement as far in advance of the event as possible - which could have been the reason behind the text message to Thompson.

At least one of the three inductees said he would not mind Favre's announcement overshadowing the festivities - particularly if the league's all-time leader in touchdown passes answers in the affirmative that his retirement is over.

He loves to play the game and it is hard to give up what you love. I'm sure whatever happens will be a group decision over what is best for the team.
