ATM Breaches At Stores- Do You Feel Safe Using an ATM?
We've all heard the stories about ATMs, or Automated Teller Machines, being hacked and stealing personal information like Pin numbers, account numbers, card numbers and so forth. Just like the Citi ATM breach just last year. So I have to ask: are they safe?Experts say the answer is that an ATM's safety depends on where it is; if it's at a bank, it's probably somewhat safer than if the ATM is in a public place, such as a ballpark, a train station or a convenience store because the Bank is monitoring the machine. Avivah Litan, a security analyst with the Gartner research firm says that you should never use an ATM at a convenience store if you can help it, because those are more susceptible to tampering.

Answered No, I don't feel safe using an ATM. I try to avoid it as much as possible.
I did a story on this awhile back. It's a real problem. There probably need to be regulations requiring independent operators to ATM's to hire someone like these guys to make sure things are done safely...

Answered I guess I feel safe using and ATM, but...
I feel safe sometimes, like at the bank ATM. Others I get paranoid as some thieves now have the equipment to stand off at a distance and the gadget reads your pin # without you even being aware.
No matter what you do a thief comes up with a way to breach security. -

Answered Yes I feel safe using an ATM, because consumers are not responsible for any fraudulent activity on their account.
I generally don't use ATM's b/c I'm not much of a fan of walking around with a lot of money on me, but I will use them when they are nearby, no reason to get charges a $1.00 for an ATM transaction in a store with an ATM right outside ya know? -

I've never used one. I use a credit card for everything I buy over $10 and then pay it all at the end of the month. I don't feel comfortable with ATMs and even less comfortable with paying a fee to take money out. -

I actually just read an article about this today! They say the safest place to use your atm card is at your local bank because they're constantly being monitored. There is less likely of a chance that someone will steal your information off your debit card strip. The article also suggested using credit over debit.
